After seeing what she did to the crate door?  Might be time to let her onto the Work Release Program...

Ask yourself if a dog that survived the cold before you picked it up can do so for a few hours a day right now. Or take the sleeping under your boss’ desk route.

As I commented earlier today. Cold weather survival requires a huge amount of energy. Energy your dog is wasting currently. Energy the breed  has adapted to having at all times.

She's jumped the fence before. I ordered the big crate that was recommended.

Which is why you chain the dog up in such a way it cannot reach the fence (will get hung up on it and strangle probably based on current behavior) or gnaw through the weak point in that which binds.

Oh my god I still love her, but then again she’s not destroying my house.

Maybe this is the trick: cage her so she expends all her energy escaping, then she won’t have energy left to destroy your house. S he escaped today but didn't destroy anything else...

If you get a new crate, slowly acclimate the dog to it. For t he first time, put him in the crate, give him a treat, and just wait in the next room for 15 minutes. The next time, make it a little longer. Eventually, put him in the crate with a treat and walk outside for a while.

Also, wipe some peanut butter inside of a KONG and freeze it. Make sure that you get the peanut butter  way inside. Put the frozen KONG in the crate with the dog when you leave. This keeps the dog busy for a while. It also makes the crate more fun. I specifically mentioned KONGs because they are almost indestructible .

Most of our dogs seem fine in a crate after a few weeks (some adapt to it almost immediately). One of o ur current dogs (the one with crate escape problems) too k abou t a month.

I did the peanut butter thing, which did not work. I will try the new crate method when I get  the next crate (the husky-proof one [allegedly]).

What you need to do is make the cage big enough so that you too can live in it. Then she won’t feel the need to escape.

you may be doing it wrong: first, crawl into the crate. Then padlock the crate door. then swallow the key...

I for real had to use carabiners and/or padlocks to keep my sheltie in his crate - dog was smarter than an average HS student and could unlock the swivel and slide lock bars from the inside with just one paw !

Promise we are trying to help here so I’m going to give away the plot while you are at wits limit.  Instead of waiting for a better time.

Every movie where the good guy is tied up on a chair and somehow manages to wiggle over to a sharp object. Just like that only with a door latch. I kid you not it will get tipped over and that will just provoke a more forceful response.

Don’t tell me, tell him.  The dog is smart enough to shelter in a snow bank when it’s Canuckistan cold outside.  Enjoys it in fact.
