I’m curious about the drive unit on the Rivian R1T. MotorTrend has a decent article about the whole truck, and says that it’s a permanent magnet motor. But it doesn’t say what the arrangement is. Does anyone here know if it’s a radial flux (a fairly normal looking arrangement) or an axial flux (more of a pancake shape)? There’s not a ton of shots of the drive unit out there, and regardless, the motor seems like a pretty compact little unit.
I don’t know what it is, but I love the idea of axial flux motors. They seem stupidly small for their potential power output. For example, the

has a peak of 582 ft-lbs
of torque in a motor that weighs ~82 lbs. (Continuous torque is still 295 ft-lbs
of torque, which is still impressive for a motor that weighs not a whole lot).

Is there actually a way of messaging individual Kinja members?
Edit: or were you thinking more find his contact info in one of his posts?

This person works there, and has posted a bit about the workplace, but has apparently deleted their account. Maybe he got in trouble for some of the things he shared.

I think I found a backup account that may belong to him though (same avatar, some Rivian knowledge):
Maybe shoot a question their way. I f it is indeed who I think and he got in trouble for over sharing like I’m guessing, I wouldn’t have high hopes for an answer.

I don’t know if this gives you anything helpful , but it’s easy enough to share, just in case. Taken personally from a local public event.
