Why did I invent Double Dog Jail?
I also now need to learn how to drywall. A coworker offered to help.

Huskies remain undefeated in their generations-long war against crate-based containment.

Most places that sell drywall do have broken sheets, so if you need a partial sheet of D/W they sell them at a discounted rate.

Man loses arms race to an animal with no arms. That’s pretty bad.
Also, cute pic.

So just to be clear, she easily destroyed her steel crate, and your answer was plastic?
She looks pretty happy with her new window in any event.

It was all I had access to after she tried to eat her way through a wall. We figured it might not stop her, but it will slow her down.

Photo 2 is too much.
After my friend s’ adopted dog busted out of his cage a few times they gave up on using it. He was a bit naughty at first (seemed to have a fondness for leath er shoes and gloves, butter, whole chocolate cakes, and apparently he once “hid” a whole bag of bread in the couch) but mellowed out really quickly.
Luckily, he never ate my shoes or gloves, it was always my friends’ stuff.

I thought she was fine being out of her crate, because she escaped and didn’t destroy much.
That logic lost me some drapes and some door trim, and earned me a hole in a wall.

Fortunately for you, drywall is an easy skill to learn.
As with all Huskies, she needs LOTS of exercise. That will help with the destruction. How much exercise? LOTS and LOTS of exercise. Zoomies for reference.

Pits will do stuff like that if they don’t get enough walks, but it sounds like Huskies do it regardless? You try a kong toy yet? Fill it with peanut butter.
My current pup gets destructive if I take him on the same walk too many days in a row. Picky bastard.

I’m not laughing at your problem. This dog was used to being outdoors and you are asking a lot of him. My consideration would be towards a heated outdoor enclosure with plastic flaps hanging down for a door he and his thick well anchored chain can freely use. Since the ground is frozen it will stand a chance of reduced damage from him.

I feel like I should reiter ate the obvious idea t here should be no feasible way to interfere with the heater or access the power run to it. No chicken wire or pot metal like that crate was made of protecting the heating element. No cheesy staple it to the side of the structure routing of power. Take time and construct something far beyond rational needs.

The folks I got mine from (the owners of my old husky’s parents) said that you need to exercise their bodies and minds rigorously, especially in the beginning. As soon as you think you’ve run them ragged, in reality you’re not even halfw ay there. One of the major causes for huskies to turn up missing is that they can follow a scent for miles, and only then realize that they are now in a totally unfamiliar location. They can be phenomenal trackers and find their way back...if they don’t c atch another scent.
I trained mine in sledding commands and let her pull me on a longboard. She would gladly pull for hours as long as the weather was cool enough. When it comes to toys, look for two things: durability and functionality. Give the dog something to actually do with it. Make it get a ball out of a larger ball, or a treat out a of a puzzle. But also make sure they are made for very strong chewers.

Over the years, we have had 7 dogs (usually 2 or 3 at a time) , so we are not new to dog training. We have always used crates because, here in Florida, if we are evacuated due to a hurricane, shelters require crates. All of our dogs, except one, learned to like their crates, and they would occasionally just go inside and lay down (it is like their private room). Our latest dog, however, has issues similar to your Husky. He chewed through a plastic crate and totally destroyed a metal wire crate. No amount of exercise seemed to help. We finally resorted to this:
It works great and, once your dog realizes that there is no way to chew through it, he will settle down. Here is a link to Amazon:

You should also invest in a heavy-duty crate pad:

I think the farther North you move the better life will get. These dogs are truly adapted towards the immense amount of energy staying alive in cold temps requires. Make full use of that while keeping it happy with your company.

Huskies (and G erman Shepards) are very smart and if they don’t get enough mental stimulation they can get destructive.
