I tried to ID the truck in ttyymmnn’s car hauler post and disappeared down a rabbit hole. Check this thing out:
The Corbitt “tall boy”. Absurdly, there is a sleeping berth in front of the driver.
Corbitt was apparently a really interesting company, and among other things, made a short line of trucks with ex-Auburn sheet metal.

Weirdly enough, I’ve been to Henderson NC, but never knew.

I suppose the sleeping berth could act as a crumple zone, of sorts.
That definitely is a tall cab.

That’s taking “cab over engine” quite literally, like a Ford H-Series.

So not a sleeper cab but a sleeper nose? Maybe the bed doubles as a footwell for the driver?

Very much so. There were a couple of setups out there that did a “let’s put the normal cab on top of the engine” and there are other setups that put a spacer underneath. Not a whole lot doing both, but some.
Diamond T did some funny things around then.

The bed space is so far out in front I think you could have somebody in there *while driving*. Particularly given that that cab was designed to be able to have four workmen across. What.

They had other really tall, goony cabs at the time, this was just the most goony - a special run of ten for a company called Turner Transfer.
Below, “normal” silly cab by Corbitt.

I have dreams from time to time where I am driving something that has its driver seat literally like two stories high.

I think the uncanny sensation of being about to fall over when braking a vehicle with a snub nose heightens (heh) the sense of being a long way from the ground. Just a couple rounds driving an E-series van, ever, and there on out you have that buried somewhere in your amygdala next to irrational dreams about being late for tests since college.
FWIW, the H-series Ford cabover Aremmes posted was nicknamed the “two-story Falcon”.

This is really cool, never heard of Corbit before. I need to find out more about that ex- Auburn truck.
