Like the majority of the world my company has been WFH since Monday. Our facilities are down to critical staff only like Law Enforcement, Facilities and another operation if I say what is will give away where I work. My team supports these critical operations so we’re working but remotely. It’s not a big technical challenge for us as from STL we support the whole US anyway so almost everything was already remote and my team handles the after hours and on-call work so my home office was already setup for it.
To the point of the post though - I’ve been getting things done that I have had on my list for a very long time as work volume has slowed to a crawl. This has included listing a bunch of stuff on eBay ( which is actually selling very well) , cleaning the garage, cleaning the basement and so on.
Over the weekend I filled most of a 20 yard dumpster from my garage and basement - both of which are now emptier than they’ve been since we moved into the house 10 years ago. It’s exhausting and frustrating (with myself) but at least I’m doing something about it now.
Today’s item is to clean up a couple black powder firearms that I haven’t shot in a while to sell them. Since there are a fair amount of Oppos that enjoy these sort of things I figured I’d share.
This is an Italian 44 caliber black powder revolver modeled after the 1851 confederate navy gun ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) . I’ve had it probably 10-12 years and while fun to shoot it’s a pain in the ass, not very reliable and you have to spend an hour cleaning it after you’re done shooting it and it will still rust when sitting no matter how well you clean and oil it.
Next is a CVA Colorado Musket Magnum .50 Caliber black powder rifle that I’ve owned for nearly 20 years (first gun I ever bought) . Unlike the above gun it is well made (in Spain it says), shoots well and is pretty reliable.
It’s still black powder which makes it pain to clean but the steel on this gun is much higher quality so a good cleaning and oiling leaves only light surface rust between seasons. This is a good gun that shoots ballistically better than a shotgun while not kicking too bad. I’ve taken a few deer with this over the years, it’ll take up to a 120 grain load and was one of the best shooting muzzle loaders before the inline guns became popular.
Well anyway oppo thanks for listing to me ramble a bit - stay safe out there and try to stay sane!
