I can’t think of anything more cheery than a good old fashioned mower-off. Sorry all you Oppos that don’t have one. Still, show me your mowers, Oppo.
This was our old ride-on. What can be more Oppo than a rear-engined, open air, bright red wheelie-popping machine with a level as a throttle. This particular Snapper came to us somehow from the estate of a hoarder about two years ago having never been used . Eventually, the carbs gave us enough trouble that it wasn’t worth the hassle and we just used the push mower. Sold now.
And now, this Johh Deere dual blade mower is pretty sweet. It was given to us for free, and boy does it make short work of the lawn, albeit with 100% less wheelies.

I have a self- propelled push mower since I only have 0.2 acres. But I’m digging that little Snapper! Looks like fun!

Craftsman Excellerator GT with 26 hp and a 54" deck. Here it’s in trailer-tender mode with a ball hitch installed. Accessories include a lawn trailer, a small box blade, a lawn spreader, and a gas-powered pull-behind tiller. I thought it would be overkill when I inherited it, but it has become one of the most-used tools I own.

We are very much still in snow mode, so not everything has its mower deck/reels on, but here’s some of them:
And the pics have been kinja’d!

Just a self propelled Snapper here. A rider wouldn’t do much good considering the size and layout (and topography) of my lawn, and besides mowing is good for my fat ass.

A small mower trailer can be very useful, especially when you are building a shed. We have a full sized not-quite-car-sized trailer that sometimes can be a bit unwieldy in tight spots.

I can understand why the geese love that mower. We have the same model, and it’s a pretty good machine.

If you slam it into high speed without using the single brake/clutch pedal, then it can kinda pop a wheelie. Sold now, since there isn’t room for both.

I have a mower, but I don't have any pictures of it, because mowing the lawn is by far the most bullshit chore in existence.

That one is car-sized. It’s been handy since I can pull it out of the back yard with the mower, hook it to the car, go to the store and buy lumber & supplies, bring it home, then drag it to the back yard with the lawn tractor.
Here’s a pic with the small trailer:

It can be a welcome respite from computer drudgery. . . if you are riding in style on a fancy John Deere.

I don’t know what kind of car is that small, but clearly that is exactly the right size for you.

If the only way to enjoy a chore is riding on a piece of equipment that costs more than most of the cars I’ve owned...that’s a bullshit chore.
You also have to do it during the day, and you have to plan around the weather. Has it rained for 9 days but now it’s finally nice out? If so, forget going out and enjoying the nice weather, because you’ve got grass to cut, assuming it's dry enough.
If I go out of town for 2 weeks, the dirty dishes stop piling up. The floors don't get dirty. But that lawn keeps growing whether you're home or not.

I’ve got myself a Honda Harmony 2013. My uncle was going to bring it to the local auction center but as fate would have it they were closed the day he was going to drop it off so he left it at Dad’s place. I stopped by one day and asked dad why my uncle was getting rid of it, to which he replied “He says that the belt or transmission slips when he goes up hills, even little ones”. I figured that would be fairly easy to diagnose so I took it home to see how it worked. If I try to start up a hill in 3rd-5th gear from a stop the belt will slip, sure, but in regular use, it’s perfectly fine. I’m pretty sure my uncle just wanted a new mower, so he sold this one to me for $100. Best $100 I’ve ever spent. I’ve had it for 3 years, zero issues. I put a set of tires on the front because they were bald and leaked a little air. Could maybe use rear tires soon.
Edit: it also came with a bagger but I took that off because who wants to bag their grass and haul it away? That’s too much effort.

The fancy equipment is optional. All you really need is the correct mindset. But yeah, no one enjoys it all the time, and the percentage goes down the larger your lawn.

Looks like a plucky little machine. Honda makes great small hp engines, but the whole machine being of that brand is pretty rare here. Why don’t lawnmowers look friendly like that anymore? Our John Deere looks like it is carrying out a personal vendetta against each blade of grass it consumes.

I have a push mower and a yard that takes almost 2 hours to cut. My front yard is mostly a hill. I would rather clean bathrooms than mow the lawn.

That’s understandable then. This yard is a pretty easy cut but has enough room for detail work to make it interesting. Also, L shaped land, so it was always going to be unusual.

Perhaps that was the wrong phrase to use. This is what I meant:
Small enough to be pulled by the car.

I know they make them, but I’ve never seen another all Honda rider. A little research shows that this series was built between 1995-1998, so it’s 22 years old at the youngest. The fact that any mower would last that long is impressive, that this one seems to have no issues at all is even more so.
Everything seems to be angry styled these days, “ aggressive and mean” is popular, “ just over here doin my thing” not so much.
I kinda want to put a giant Honda wing logo on it. Can’t decide between the vintage red/white/blue, or a more modern black on though.

I can tell you from experience that a V6 Ranger really can’t pull that reassuringly overbuilt trailer with any haste. A car? Perhaps a little more rapid.

I would go vintage for the aesthetic. Great story. I imagine Honda could have been very competitive in the mower market if they had stuck with it. Already, a Honda engine powers just about all of the push mowers.

Why would you feel sorry for oppos who dont have one? I should feel sorry for you because you have to own one lol. While normally that means that I dont have a lawn, instead its because Im renting a room and so its just not my damn problem, but I still get to have a lawn. Although Im pretty sure nobody bothers with any sort of lawn maintenance at the house but thats a different story haha.

My little B 3000 (Ranger) couldn’t even haul itself with haste. :)
The trailer is ridiculously overbuilt. My grandmother’s third husband had it built to haul his little lawn tractor. Why he built it that way, I’ll never know. The sad part is that my lawn tractor is too big for it. I didn’t know that until we were clearing out my mom’s property and I tried to drive the tractor onto the trailer. I had to figure out how to remove the mower deck so the tractor would fit. Then I stood the deck up and slid it between the mower and one of the sides. That was when I learned that m ower decks are heavy!
The trailer made the 600+ mile trip from my mom’s place to our house without a problem.

Aww yes!
I rarely take pics of my mowers, but here is some out of date pics
My E130 when it was brand new, also new cart. My main grass cutting machine. I wash and dry it after every mow :)
A free LA series, the deck was rotted out and turned it into a little tractor to pull my cart doing various jobs along the property. 5 speed manual!
And a 30" Zero turn I bought for $50 because the fuel pump sucked in oil into the carb and made a motorized fog machine. All fixed up and use it for the tight areas. This little thing is quick!

That’s good to hear. You always want it to be overbuilt so you don’t break an axle on a bump before you break the floorboards.

You win, not for the second best variety, but for “motorized fog machine” and actually washing a mower every time.

My yard is less than 1/4 of an acre, so I have the cheapest and smallest push mower I could buy. Plus two broken ones I need to get rid of.

Perfectly fine. I don’t think our yard really warrants a ride-on but both were free so it just makes it easier.

I have this tiny plug-in black and decker. For my tiny yard. It works fine. Never have to buy gas or worry about batteries and the cord isn’t THAT bad to manage.
Note also my moderately large Toro.
