Hi all!
Started hearing this squeaking noise coming from my front-left wheel in the last few weeks. It goes away when I get up to speed, but is really easy to hear at low speeds when the car is rolling forward or backward.

Doesn’t seem to get any worse when cornering one way or another.
I’m pretty sure it’s just the brake backing plate rubbing against the brake disk, but wanted a second opinion!
Thoughts? :)

I think its the brakes as well. Could be the pad just touching the disk. When was the last time the guide bolts were greased?

It doesn’t happen WHEN I am braking though, so I don’t THINK it’s the pads or brakes
?
That being said, it would’ve been awhile since they were serviced...maybe I should look into getting it done when my winter rims/tires
get swapped over...

Sounds like a rock lodged in the pad. Drive down any gravel roads lately?

It wont happen when you are braking.
What happens is that if the guide pins are not well lubricated, the caliper doesnt slide back all the way and *just* touches the disk. If the disk is a bit warped, the pad(s) will periodically touch the disk. At slow speeds since the disk is rotating slowly, you can hear the noise for a longer duration.

Anecdotal, but when I worked at a dealership, the office manager brought her brand new GMC Terrain in for a squea k with similar symptoms , and it turned out to be a goddamn leaf in her caliper. Wild stuff.

Yeah, pretty sure it’s either just something caught or the brake backing plate rubbing.

Could very well be...everything seems to be working fine, so I’m not too worried about it yet, but I’ll definitely get it looked at in the coming month.

I’ve had that same thing happen in the past but it sounded a bit different to this. That being said, I do live on a gravel road...

I had a dry leaf in the caliper in my MINI a while back. Definitely made a worrying noise.
