Given the Presidential speech today and how quickly things are (d)evolving. I’m starting a daily feelgood post to celebrate finding a positive emblem to dwell upon free of despair or worry.
Today I managed to lock down a very much not available locally Yuengling in a can. As the oldest sustained brewery in the US I’m celebrating constancy and unflappable devotion to a simple pleasure in life.

We can’t get that stuff on the west side of the Mississippi. Anyone up for a Smokey and the Bandit: Quarantine Edition Yuengling Run?

The cutoff is beyond the great river all the way into at least Wisconsin I believe. Anyways this was freshly trekked back from the East coast and handed to me after impressing on this person the seriousness of the situation we are facing.
It wasn’t the best beer I’ve ever had but I hope to live long enough to have something nearer that ideal.

Yeah, I’m very much in support everyone, good vibes, let’s get through this together right now mode. I’m lucky enough that barring some truly apocalyptic scenarios, I’m not going to have to worry about economic hardship in this situation, and I’ve got plenty of supplies stocked up to camp out at home with. We’re all going to need human contact, virtually speaking , and negativity and hostility does no good right now.

In.
At my in-laws BBQs in Florida we all slam like ten of these.
The Porter is really good.

I’ve never had it. I’ve never been east of Texas. I got to Texas and decided it was too large to keep crossing.
Kidding, I was there for an event and haven’t had any plans to go to the east coast, yet.

I’m from Chicago, but lived in CA for a bit.
Charleston, New York, and New Orleans are worth visiting.

In my early 20s, I lived about 10 miles from the Yuengling brewery. This was before Yuengling became popular. No on e ever heard of Yuengling outside of Schuylkill County, PA , and even the locals thought that it was just a so-so beer.
At that time, w e co uldn’t get Coors beer east of the Mississippi so people used to make long distance runs to stock up on Coors.

After reading my post, I would like to clarify - I like Yuengling Beer. I just found it amusing that people living practically within walking distance of the brewery wanted Coors, because they could not get it.

We don’t get it in Texas, FWIW.

Chances are it was made of better ingredients and tasted better back then too. As always the crave for attention and lack of things remaining to “discover” have driven people down some strange roads.
I didn’t turn down my first Ninkasi (years ago) when a friend from out West came by either. There is a certain brand of potato chips nobody locally pays much attention that people out of state are nuts about.

I always think of Lone Star when I think Texas. I haven’t seen it before in CA, not that I’ve looked... next time I’m at the store... hmm curious

Haha. Lone Star is awful. Best when cold, free and purchased by anyone else.
