My faves all pulled the plug today, too. Ouch.

So much revenue lost that can’t be recovered this season when quarantine lifts. Doubly harsh.

Yep... There are still four holdouts that I know of here, Cannon, Bretton Woods, Waterville Valley, and Gunstock, and all but Gunstock seem to be operating at significantly reduced capacity, with Bretton Woods and Waterville Valley shutting down most services (lodges, shops, rentals, lessons, etc.) and lifts, while Cannon is making tomorrow the last day of the season for their trams (which will operate at half capacity with the windows open). Gunstock seems to want to go all out to their normal close date, but other resorts were making similar statements a few days ago and are now closed for the season. I wouldn’t give any of them better than 50/50 odds to be open Tuesday.

More seriously, hopefully it isn’t too bad for the slopes here in the Northeast, many of them would close in two or three weeks anyway, and late season conditions (especially in a warm season like this one) wouldn’t have brought out too many people. Going to hurt a lot more for the places that are typically open into May or June, because it’s quite possible we’ll still be living with this then. And even after the season they have to start wondering if their summer activities are in jeopardy. I assume the big chains will be able to manage any hits, but for smaller operations this might be the straw that broke the camel’s back. And of course theirs the question of employees unexpectedly losing income (Vail has said they will pay their people during this week, but it’s not clear what happens with other resorts, or when (not if) these closures go on longer).

That’s what I’m thinking too. The service industry, usually with notoriously thin margins to start with, was always going to take a bad hit, but the seasonal nature of the ski business must be extra susceptible.
Maybe I’m too optimistic, but I’m hoping that by the time summer is in full swing that we’ll be in much better shape.

We can hope. I don’t know that we can count on summer itself slowing it down (best look I’ve seen at that issue: https://ccdd.hsph.harvard.edu/will-covid-19-go-away-on-its-own-in-warmer-weather/ ), but shutting everything down (our governor just ordered schools, restaurants, and bars closed, banned visitors from nursing homes, and recommended no gatherings over 50 people) should make a dent. Of course there’s a real risk that we do better, lift the restrictions and are quickly back where we are today (still an improvement since we’d achieve some of that “curve flattening” everyone is so fond of now, but not a great situation either).

And right as mammoth is about to get dumped on too! Thankfully the season runs late at least so there's hope they will open back up.

Eh, late season I’m not sure they’re raking in a ton of revenue, relative to the expenses of spinning lifts and running all their services. Still, they’d prefer to stay open I am sure.

My rec hockey league just suspended everything into April, and if this explodes, I suspect we’re done, or the playoffs will start in July. Rinks open for practice, for now anyway.
In WA, I think I heard Crystal, Stevens, and Summit at Snoqualmie closed, even if temporarily, at this time of year, probably done.

It’s mostly pass holders this time of year but they are still going to loose money. I rode the lift with the owner and with all the other resorts closing he get there wasn’t any other choice.

So the title of this one i s clickbait or the content of the one you just linked was? :P
With the warmest year ever recorded forecast I suspect you are right that ski season is basically over. Roller ski season is going to be off the charts though.

Still open here. They are taking it day-to-day and cancelled all of the big events/parties planned and group lessons but the lifts are running. Spring hit us early so unless we get another storm this week the snow melt may close us before coronavirus. Also I’ve been bad about posting on PF this year sorry. Life has been crazy. I’ll try to get a short summary post up soon.

Oh dont worry, I will be there as soon as they open back up. I will gladly do split trips where I ski and mountain bike the same weekend. No problems with that in June/July
