I’m ready for them. Cams are dumb.

There was a good write up on the car on Jalop front page recently. Really good read, IMO.

Where do they get the money to do this stuf f? There’s no way Koenigsegg is turning a profit on any car they sell, and I feel even the richest people on earth couldn't bankroll this kind of R&D out of pocket for as long as he has.

You should be able to retrofit them to OHC engines, too.

The car interests me alot less purely based on sticker price.

Oh, sure. That engine is probably the most interesting part of the car. But there was a lot of discussion about the engine in the Jalop article as well. I then went and watched some youtube about it, too. The innovation coming out of Koenigsegg and Freevalve is pretty amazing. 300hp/liter?!

Christian still owns his big import/export company I believe. Think hes earning on some carbon fiber patents now too

Long ago (in college) some friends and I schemed about a similar setup (though fully electrical, I like the pneumatic setup better), very cool to see it make production; a lot of great possibilities with this since ramp rates can now be near-infinite and timing, duration, phasing, etc. all continuously and independently varied.

That said, I already own a car with a camless engine :)

I'm curious to see if this takes off. Modern VVTL systems are really good, and very well understood. I love the concept and think its really cool but part of me thinks that while this would have been amazing 10-15 years ago, today it feels more like a last gasp for ICE relevance as we slowly march towards full electrification.

His car company is basically a R&D center for tech to sell to other carmakers. He has the patent on flex fuel sensors and has sold the Freevalve tech already.

Well, there’s that car company over in Fremont you could say exactly the same thing about--  As far as I’m concerned the rich guys and VCs can throw all the money they want at crazy ideas, as long as they don’t back their trucks up to the Federal Treasury along the way.

That’s not even enough to develop a car. Even a normal consumer sedan  can cost over a billion to develop. Koenigsegg has made like ten distinct hypercars.

I still think battery tech will hold back electric. If they get some miracle battery though...

I agree with you but at the same time I kind of think it doesn’t matter at this point, the way governments are pushing to phase out ICE.
