This one was apparently a forest service truck.

Maybe a custom-ordered deal?

Well it was a government vehicle, I’m not sure, we better ask the king of rust.

Fleet sales back then, I think.

The advent of “the club cab” from Dodge, which grew to Ford’s “SuperCab” and the imitators, was relatively late. I “think” that big fleet buyers, like railroads, oil, utility companies had a secret menu item for it long before though — I believe most everybody offered their commercial fleets a full four-door “CREW CAB” truck. I remember seeing the inside of a Chevy like that from many decades back. And it was spartan back there. Bench seat. Window crank and a door handle.

My money is on that not being factory. Don’t think Jeep ever made a crew cab.

I did find this incredibly beautiful example of a  regular cab on YT while I was looking, however. Dayum.

Well the paint looks original and they said it was a forest service vehicle . Maybe for the government? I’ll try and find out.

Jeep forum says, “They made them for a short period of time. It was a custom order thing. You could only get one on an early build ‘85, right alongside the longbed chief.”

Fleet sales.  Ford and Chebby would sell a utility a load of “Crew Cabs” long before it was mainstream.
