I recently spent time with a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I wanted to do something a little different with it.

Besides press events many hardcore off road trim levels stay on easy pavement roads, so I thought about testing it out on a “rough road”. My plan is to test out any off road vehicle or off road part upgraded vehicles I get on this strip of road.

I would describe the road as a mini-rally stage . I would love to shut the road down and go flat out in a rally car, but I will settle for a brisk safe drive in an off road vehicle.

Now, about that RAV4 TRD Off Road. I could see where it got its inspiration from Ryan Millen’s Rally RAV4, I felt like I was flying around in what could be a future rally car. For as little suspension upgrades that it received - just some TRD springs and some shock tuning/changes not the full on FOX shock package a TRD Pro gets - that it soaked up every bump like a champ.

That would be a hell of a rally stage.

Totally, I would channel my inner Ken Block.

It needs a TRD Pro model.

If they made a RAV4 with TRD Pro bits like FOX shocks, a cool TRD skid plate, it would be my next vehicle

That’s in better shape than the roads I drive every day. Mud season is setting in in earnest and the Kona will be getting its hardest workou ts of the year soon.

I feel you. I will say the roads are worse in person than the angle of the head mounted GoPro shows.

Speaking of Kona, so I drove one of those as a rental in Vegas for SEMA this past year . It definitely grew on me. How do you like it?

I really like it. We have a Limited AWD, the 1.6t and 7spd DCT are very much worth the price in my opinion. It’s small, but we WANTED a small car, the interior is comfortable and useful, the AWD system is quick to react and very smart. It feels like a real three-differential system in most situations. Sadly it has Hyundai’s near-zero-feedback electric power steering, because the chassis dynamics and suspension tuning are genuinely excellent. Hyundai has very clearly been profiting from all the poached BMW engineers. Throwing it around, both on loose surfaces and dry pavement is genuinely fun (with TC disabled it will happily kick the rear out, and with all the drive nannies off it will drift on loose surfaces for as long as you can keep the rear end from hooking up... This fun is a little limited by the conservative programming of the DCT) , but it also manages to soak up large potholes and uneven surfaces very well. I kinda wish it had paddle shifters, and/or the more aggressive DCT programming from the Elantra Sport... As is, very pleased with it. Its also easy to service and live with, loaded with useful tech (including H yundai’s excellent lane keep, but sadly no dynamic cruise :p) , and we beat the EPA economy estimates handily most tanks.

Awesome, being a rental mine was obviously the base trim.
