Prior discussion about keeping my “wrecked” tire and having it patched for a spare got me thinking about options for carrying it.
I have the roof basket, which is the least work, but we use that for tent/coolers/etc when travelling/camping, so I’d rather not tie that up.
I could get a hitch mount like this:
But it seems all I’m finding eliminate the use of your receiver hitch, so that complicates things.
Something like this would be my ideal solution:
But the hatch design means I’d have to mount it off the driver’s side.
What’s Oppo think? Any other ideas?

I’d hit up the Junk Yards, I think the Early 2000s Blazer Tire Carrier might work

Possibly. The wrap around would need modding, but it’d be a starting point.

With the right set of wheels, you could carry TWO spares!

The solution is a bumper replacement towbar with a built in swing away tyre carrier . They are not uncommon in Australia (my mother has one on her LR D4) with Kaymar being the key brand. Try going to school on that...

Best of both worlds... but not cheap.

I found that as well. I’m not spending $800+ on a spare tire carrier though.
I did come across this
From which I could build my own spare mount to my specs and still keep use of my hitch.
