I’m going to find an overlanding-ish build that you all like, even if it takes me months.
Here’s a good color FJ with some wheels, front bumper, lights, and underbody protection.
No roof rack.
No tactical shovels.
No stickers.
Not even a winch!
Yay? Nay?
As a bonus, I found this while looking around under my bathroom cabinet. Am I rich?

The lightbar looks tacky and is mounted crooked

I think light bars pretty much always look bad. At least compared to old school pod lights. But they're just soooooo effective!

I like the lack of stickers,
I dislike the aftermarket lights.

I hate all light bars on principle because the main reason I like to go outside is to escape light pollution, but other than that, two thumbs up.

There is nothing about this that I like. And no, it isn't because Toyota. Also, why would not have a roof rack? You can put so much stuff up there, like bikes, snowboards, Jerry cans, spare tire, etc.

I think I’ve used hand sanitizer twice in the past three weeks, which is about how many times I’ve used it all of last year. Nothing like having hand sanitizer dispensers at the entry of every story only to immediately have to lay your hands on a shopping cart handle, door knob, or shake someone's hand.

I’d prefer the Prado upon which it was based...and the turbo diesel engine. But yeah... it's OK. Except for that daft light bar.

Mmm. I like it.
Reminds me that at some point I need to get working on a rig so when my son is old enough to go wandering the woods we’ll have a suitable vehicle. I just wish I had more garage space.

Light bar is dumb, but other than that, I love how these look. I was going to buy one but within a minute of driving an FJ it was off my list. Horrible blind spots and the door configuration with no roll down rear side windows is bad. 4 Runners are better in every way aside from funky looks.

Light bar is dumb, but otherwise this one ain’t bad. It’s still a street machine, though.

I dig it. I’m not a light bar fan, but the low profile and size to lumens ratio can’t be denied. They just remind me of being blinded on Kentucky back roads by pizza boys in rusty Cavaliers with light bars bolted to the hood. I like the tube bumper as opposed to the sheet metal deals that weigh as much as I do. The wheels are nice and subtle, there’s rails on the roof should the need arise and the color rocks. That said, I like the FJ as a styling exercise, but it doesn’t make much sense compared to a 4runner or GX470.

I dig the color of that FJ, but I also have a categorical distas te for the FJ.

I like FJs. At least in theory, I remember when I drove one dons ago, I wasn’t thrilled with it. Being one of the few newish SUVs (if you can call 10-13 years old new) you can get with a manual holds some intrigue.
I’d like to drive one again and see if my initial impressions are reinforced.

That’s a hard question. Generally BOF trucks and SUVs have the best practicality and considering the weather here an SUV is probably the vehicle of choice. There aren’t a lot of options in the market anymore unless you go pretty far back in time: Ford Bronco (24 years old now), Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4-Runner (and variants, like the FJ Cruiser ), Toyota Land Cruiser (but expensive and too large, so probably not), Ford Raptor (this has long been a dream vehicle of mine, but it’s more suited for desert trips ; up here, I’d want an early short-wheelbase example, which is coincidentally what I wanted when I lived in SoCal because I value maneuverability over seating ), GM makes a ton of tarted- up archaic SUVs (but I’m not comfortable with anything GM), Dodge Rams (which are dirt cheap, but suffer from crappy everything), Tesla Cybertruck, and something entirely custom (I’ve been bouncing ideas for off-road vehicles around in my head for at least 20 years , most ideas are diesel-electric with hydraulic articulation that have more in common with Mars rovers than cars ).
