I’m going to drop my wrx back down to at least stock height probably more of a half inch drop over stock but I’m stuck at the options for struts.
I have my old blown stock struts that I could do koni inserts in but I think they may be too rusty. They are super dirty and not cleaned up at all in these photos. I think I can get access to a sand blaster but I’m not sure how much that would remedy things.
Other option is to junk these and go for either tein endurapro (no reviews anywhere since they are fairly new) or kyb agx. Anyone want to have some input here?
Mini side note: this is my first time taking springs off and it’s terrifying at first but stupid easy. I had all springs off of these in maybe half an hour.

What makes you think they’re too bad for ne w inserts? Unless there’s some structural rot I’m not seeing, these look fine

Not sure I just tend to get slightly paranoid about things spectacularly failing on me. They held the old springs just fine when they were 95% riding on just the springs so structurally I guess they have to be fine

These look pretty wasted. At least get some replacements from a dismantling place.

I used KYB AGX adjustable struts with TEIN springs for several years before finally upgrading to coilovers. They were great IMO.

I’m in no rush so I’ll check to see if anyone has some in the area

I’m still up in the air with what path for struts I want to go. What coils did you end up with?

I just ordered some Bilsteins for my car. Will be my first time doing shocks/s truts so hopefully I’m as successful as you in not launching springs into my skull.
I didn’t even realize that the Koni inserts were a thing until I started looking at what to buy. Seems like a dubious concept to me. Even going that route, I wouldn’t trust those lower spring seats to hold long term, they already seem pretty perforated
. I agree with Highlander, if you are sold on the drop ins, at least see if you can source some junk ones that are less rusty.

If no supply in Utah there are some great dismantling places in Rancho Cordova California and they ship etc... I did an entire suspension change out on my Subaru XT for like $300.

The inserts get pretty good reviews but I’m not sold on them completely. I wish I could get some bilsteins but they don’t make any for the 03 that I know of. I’m starting to lean towards a new set of struts which will be both easier and cheaper

I’ve got a strong feeling that pretty much anything you put on the car will be an improvement over what was there...
I’m curious to see how mine feels with the Bilsteins. I don’t expect it to become a race car, and I’m hoping they aren’t so still to ruin it as a highway cruiser but we’ll see. Honestly I’m about 50/50 on replacing it this spring, so I probably should have just bought some super cheap struts (or quick struts), but I couldn’t resist trying something fancier.

Ha these haven’t been on the car in a few years. I have feal Max travel struts on there right now that are
amazing over blown struts but I’m finding out I don’t really like the lift.
