Because the UK isn’t part of Europe anymore, its been relocated to somewhere in the middle of the North Atlantic.

This is a clear overreaction, but its probably one of those cases where if the government doesn’t do something ridiculously overdramatic, they’ll be accused of not doing enough.

One thing he didn’t announce was government help for the airlines. This is devastating news. And while banning all travel to and from Europe might have some sort of effect, he didn’t seem to say much about what we are doing to stop infection here. It sounded to me like he’s leaving it up to the states, when consistent, federal guidelines would perhaps be more useful.

My girlfriend is living in Amsterdam right now. She is supposed to be traveling here through lax next week. We are quite worried that that’s not gonna happen. Apparently this ban doesn’t apply to American citizens and she is flying through London anyways but still it’s scary. Not really for the risk of dying since we have no health issues to worry about but more so the risk of being Quarantined and being sick would suck regardless. Thankfully we at least both have jobs with more than adequate sick leave. I could probably take off 3 or 4 months and not run out of sick leave lol.

One of the big parts of Trump’s speech tonight is that they (say) are going to provide/ require/extend family leave for those who have to care for kids out of school, work from home, etc. We’ll see.

While getting around this ban seems likely to be easy, I’d imagine we aren’t granting many Iranians visas these days (and it seems like the bans don’t really apply to US citizens and permanent residents ) .
