I’ve been out of the R/C hobby for some time now and have been itching to get back in. Fast off-roaders have always been my go-to for R/C, but this time I wanted to go slow and try building a trail truck. I ran the idea by my wife a few weeks ago and she said something like “Sure, I don’t care.” Nice.
So, I bought a Traxxas TRX-4 kit. I went with Traxxas because I have always had Traxxas truck s in the past. Also, the two speed transmission, portal axles, a nd remote locking differentials sounded pretty cool.
Pictures from start to finish. It was an enjoyable build and I’m glad I went with the kit over the ready torun model. The body is a ‘67 Chevy made by Axial. I’m really happy with how the paint turned out.
I’ve only had it out for one good drive but I’m already impressed. It is far more capable than I imagined it would be.

The axles, surprisingly, weren’t too bad. I p ut the transmission together while I had a pretty bad cold and had to rebuild it a couple times to get it right . My brain wasn’t functioning properly and I probably should have just waited. But I was too excited.
