What a cool spot.
And...
Front. F-ing. Row. For Nathaniel Rateliff last night. I don’t really have any other pics, because he apparently asks the venue to totally crack down on cell phone use during his shows, which I totally support by the way. I’m pretty tired of people basically live-streaming the entire show instead of, you know, enjoying it in person which is the entire point of going, inn’it?!
We were so darn close to the stage that it was actually kind of cramped. My feet were resting on a spaghetti pile of cables, and honestly, I can stretch my legs out more in a Southwest coach seat. But who cares when you’re this close?!
If I leaned forward, even sitting fully in my seat, I could put my hands on the stage. I got a setlist from the stage after, one of the crew handed a few of them out. Sorry, again, no pic. It’s at home. Here’s a terrible pic looking backwards at the venue from my seat from before the show:
Rateliff was awesome, a really talented guy (obviously) and I think this album has a lot of meaning to him, personally. I am sure he almost cried talking about the last song, dedicated to a friend who died in 2018, even though he’s done it a jillion times... or he was just putting on a show, I guess. Either way, it’s hard not to be affected by that emotional display from 10 feet away. I think it’s the best song on the album, and he did it last. So, so good.
OH YEAH and it’s some promotion, “ Restaurant Week” in Boston so we went to a prix fixe 3-course meal at one of the best restaurants in the city (evidently) beforehand, it was soooo delicious.
Anyway, the show got out at 11:00 and we live almost 2 hours north of Boston. My wife had a big meeting this morning at 8:00am so I drove home while she slept. I drank very little (duh, 2 hr. drive) . But I am tired. I’m going to get a coffee now.

Its a little hard to tell in one of the pics, but I can see a couple Benson Amps in the pic of guitars and amps on stage. I used to work for them. Itz always fun to see an amp that I could have built (I built all the first generation Vinny models, all the Gnostics before they were discontinued and almost all the non-reverb heads from 2016 to 2019). Especially when I'm not expecting music gear in my scroll!

Sweet! That’s almost close enough for him to sweat on you.

I love S.O.B. but I don’t think I know any of his other tunes. Will have to listen.

Oh man, for a while Google Music was going through a phase where it was sure I liked him no matter how many of his songs I gave thumbs down to. Resulting in this:
In any event, glad you had a good time! And yeah restaurant weeks are good stuff (haven’t actually done any in Boston, but it was great in NYC).

Awesome. That dude has been through some shit, which leads me to think that the crying is probably real to him.
So jealous!

I’m not like, a huge fanboy, but I like his stuff generally. But I thought, and was correct, that he’d be great live. He puts so much emotion into his music, even on the studio versions. I can get into that even when I’m luke warm on someone’s actual music.

He messed around with one in particular, he and the other guitar and bass must use them. That’s cool that you (probably) built them?!

I have a similar problem with Bon Iver, who I really can’t bring myself to like.

Thats rad. If the band got them in the 2016 to 2018(I stopped building for them in December of that year. I thought I was going to buy and operate a rental yard so I backed down a bit) I probably had something to do with them. I can’t tell what models they are from here. But I love seeing that little bit of Portlandia around the webz!

We saw Tool play in Cleveland back in November. They also cracked down on cell phone usage...but for the last song Maynard announced official permission from the band to take footage of the performance as a thank-you to the audience for participating. I took some pics, which I’d share if Kinja weren’t complete poop.
I’m a lso a bit of a NR fan...enough that I enjoyed the first big album but haven’t really gotten into much of his stuff after. My gf bought me a couple of the albums but I haven’t listened to them a lot.
