I came across this photo while looking at pictures of 2CV’s. Without any context whatsoever, I’ve been perpetually puzzled by it all day. Why is that old lady knitting in a fancy old lady chair in the middle of a doorless 2CV while her cat hangs out behind her with a basket of yarn and a purse? And why is the old lady looking at me that way like she knows something I don’t? What the heck is going on here? Is this from some old French fairy tale? Did she remove the doors because “It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand”? Is this an image my computer conjured from my subconscious through black magic sorcery (because honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if weird stuff like this was going on there)? Is this a rejected character from Alice in Wonderland? What is this photo?

2CV. You’ll find it as inviting as you would your grandmother’s house.
En Francais peutetre: “V ous la trouverez aussi invitante que la maison de votre grand-mère.”
With apologies to my high school French teacher, Madame Payne. I used Google Translate. Ta nt pis.

Duh, its so comfortable that you can fall asleep to the sound of your own geriatric hands knitting unnecessary scarfs. And the doors are so grandkids can visit at any time!

She’s inviting you to the “F*** Shack.” Also known as a Citroen. Tin roof...... rusting.

It apparently goes with this text but I’m too lazy to learn French/ type it into Google translate.

One design parameter required that customers be able to drive eggs across a freshly ploughed field without breakage.
The photo is a reference to the 2CV’s handling characteristics. The old lady’s look is just typical old lady attitude to emphasize that

I was assuming that it was something about it being smooth-riding enough for granny to do knitting in. GLiddy’s suggestion would make sense, though.
I would bet it’s from a run of ‘63 ads that turned up in my search, which showed it with the doors removed for clarity like that.
But that’s mostly a guess.

Perhaps it’s a PSA about not knitting while driving...

You want a story. Sure. The grandma isn’t really grandma. She’s the wolf that ate Grandma and is now inviting you over to buy her Citroen. She’ll lull you with lies about comfort and reliability and then eat you alive with repair costs on an old French car.
The End (of you).

This is what Google Translate spat out: Grandmother is there in her armchair! His doctor prescribed the suspension of the 2cv. She rejuvenates in this car which cannot age and knows how to stay alert after more than 100,000 kilometers. She is really tireless and will never tire you.

All the comforts of home, presumably. Which is pretty funny.
