I finally got out on my new bike this weekend! I was quiet about it, but I was really afraid that I was not going to like my new bike. The good thing is, I love it! Riding up hill on via full suspension MTB is hilariously easy. The smaller frame, different geometry and, and 27.5" wheels are much better suited to my size and riding style. The only real con and this is probably a knock on my technique and not the bike is “pedal strikes”. I hit the pedals a lot on this bike. When I’m moving slow over technical terrain, I can be strategic to avoid hitting the pedals. When I’m just riding I feel like I’m hitting a lot of rocks and roots. Still, probably just me.
The dropper post takes some getting used to, but you can really whip though turns when you are down super low like that.
It was just a quick ride because we had a home project to work on. My wife asked if I would build her two garden beds. Of course I said sure! In my mind a flower bed costs about $50 and can be slapped together in a few minutes (and is also the same as a garden bed) .
So she hands me her list on Saturday and I head to the Depot... “This list is large!” I think to myself as I read down past 8' 2x4 (pressure treated) qty-44 to the 12' cedar decking boards. “Guess I’m renting the truck” I think.”
So -$700 and an hour or so later I return. My wife and daughter are waiting excitedly by the door. I said, “hey, how big are these garden beds?” “ 16'x4'” she replies...Oh ok, all this wood makes more sense now.
Sunday I cut her enough wood to get started building the support frames while I went for a ride. When I got back I finished cutting and helped her assemble. We’ll need one more day to finish them and another weekend to fill them with dirt.
This morning I woke up with just enough time to shuffle the cars around enough to get the M3 out and take it to work.
Happy Monday.

Is this the aluminum base? I’ve been eying the 29" version for a while. Really does look like a ton of bike for the money.

Yep 2020 Jeffsy AL Base 27.5. My buddy at work got the same bike in blk/grey and a 29er. Both of us loved em.

Mo rn ing. I have no new bikes to play on, but I do have a new this:
Massive upgrade over my old fluid smart trainer (which it should be for four times the price). Did a short ride this morning, and my legs are suitably sore.
I did make the mistake of buying an 11-32 cassette like what shipped with the bike I have on it, rather than the 12-25 cassette that’s on there now (I do not recommend B icycle S port Shop in Austin, they do things like not replacing your bottom bracket like you asked, and instead swapping the cassette for a different model with out consulting you, all while charging a $20 cleaning fee when your bike is only a little dusty ). The net result is that my chain is a little too short to hit every gear combination on the new cassette, but luckily those combinations aren’t really that desirable anyway.

I’m getting my new stump jumper soon, I can’t wait to take it out. I might have to drive to Spokane WA to ride tho, there is still a bit of snow and ice here.

Pedal strikes are common on the slack-style bikes of today. Definitely something I had to get used to going from hardtail to full squish.

Spokane is okay, especially for winter and early season. There are a ton of trails in downtown area around the river.

It’s a 2019 SJ 29er Pro model, so SRAM build with the RSC brakes and carbon wheels. I think the shifter and rear D are XO on the bike I’m getting.

Oh man, what a beauty. Really like that color. I want to try out some different brakes but need to pick up new tires first to deal with this CA “dirt” .
Here’s my rig, https://www.specialized.com/us/en/mens-stumpjumper-comp-alloy-27-5/p/154963?color=253551-154963&searchText=95718-5103 .

The purgatory/Butcher combo is fine, it just doesn’t roll well on hard pack or pavement. There is a huge selection of tires out there to choose from, try to find some with more and smaller knobs.
