Had to drive all the way to a previous residence to get some documents from city hall, six hours round trip. Which gav e me a really great opportunity to get to know the Fit RS... And... Yup. It’s a Honda. Notably, it’s pretty much exactly what I expected a successor to the Logo TS to be. It’s similar in fit (no pun intended), size, driving feel (especially when in sport mode). It’s just a bit bigger, a bit higher, a bit more styled (though I actually prefer to early 96-00 style dashes and clusters), a bit more responsive, a bit faster, a bit more powerful.
It needs to be lowered, of course (the Logo had aftermarket springs), and seating felt a bit off, probably because I’m used to my Recaros, and once they are in, I think that should settle it. One thing I noticed with my Logo and notice with the Fit is a bit too much body roll, and it doesn’t feel as planted in turns compared to my EK (well, technically, EJ), but then it was was much wider.

new lowered shocks and springs will help
as well as a manual trans & turbo setup
:P

uhm, yeah, see, about that trans swap, see...
I only have an automatic license, and I took the test eleven years ago. If I want a manual license I have to retake the test on a manual. And if I want a shot at passing, I’ll probably need lessons.

I agree with pip bip: give it a shot. It’s really worth experiencing.
My first time in a stick was a disaster, because my mom suggested it while we were passing through a city infamous for its long string of stop lights, so every block I’d stall out and earn a cacophony of horns. Don’t do that.
But since I properly learned it that’s all I’ve wanted to drive.

Oh, no, I think you misunderstand. I drove manual once upon a time. I just haven’t done it since moving to Japan. I explained the whole story about how when I initially made the choice to do the auto test, I had no idea I’d still be here. I almost certainly would need practice again, but I mean I know how to use a clutch and shift. But I failed the auto-test three times here, it is that hard —and I had a provisional (not learners, provisional is limited distance around home and school) at 15. So I’d been driving about 10 years already when I took that test. Now I’ve been driving for over 20. I thought I’d leave Japan after a year or two, why get a manual license? I also didn’t own a car—one was provided for me. It was auto.

My father had a manual 1992 Civic in that weird metallic mint color:

So 90's. But somehow I want to go full-on Super Touring on it.

He drove that until 2002, when he got a Camry. I got it during grad school in 2011-2012, and he got a Honda CR-V which he still has and was still in great condition as of two years ago. He probably won’t replace it. We’re mostly a Honda family. My mother drives a Corolla, but it’s in bad shape now (I think it’s on 04?). My purchased cars: 98 Ford Escort Zx2 (GARBAGE), 2000 Honda Civic DX Hatch, 2000 BMW 323i Sport Sedan, the 2000 Honda Logo TS, and now with 09 Fit RS. I’d go back to BMW except they’re a frikken money pit and my 323i was CPO, so I wasn’t about to wrench it myself.

Bad plan: give/sell (???) Fit to mum, plunk extra dough and get a Civic Si.

I hear you on that choice. I especially didn’t want to try for the manual after meeting the people on their 11th try for the manual, and their stories about how 9+ times is pretty normal from the other people they met on their previous attempts. I thought 3-5 for the automatic was bad enough.

Yeah, a coworker had been given a manual Suzuki Alto, so he decided to go for it. 7 times. It took him 7 times.

Yeah, that just sucks. Especially when the test doesn’t reflect the way people drive in reality. Though I’d be pretty tempted to do it if I had a Wo rks.
