I have ac quired a vintage instrument

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve been trying to find an Azureglo Rickenbacker bass for years, but since they stopped making the color in 1984, and the replacement darker blue isn’t quite as well liked, they are pretty scarce. This one popped up on my marketplace feed this morning for a decent price, so I figured “why not?”

Now starts a few weeks of setting it up to play how I like. T hese old Rickenbackers, I hear, can be quite challenging to set up properly.

nice! They play like nothing I’ve ever picked up, so smooth . Found a Fender Jazz Aerodyne recently for myself. Something I’ve wanted for a while.

Neat! I’ve always liked the look of those.

Willie Adler signature?

Nice! I saw the Fab Faux last week and Will Lee was playing a white ~73 RIC.....such iconic basses. He has a sunburst one as well, I believe

Very cool color, though I have a preference for Geddy Lee-Black. (I have a Fender Geddy Jazz bass).

Ooo man, that’s sweet. They are a bear to setup. Double trussrod....and the bridge are interesting if you’ve never worked on one. There’s a guy on YouTube “ Dave’s world of fun stuff” who has done at least one walk through of a Ricky setup. Congrats!

By the way, is that a Park amp head on top of that red cab?

Especially these pre 1982 dual truss systems. You apparently have to manually bend the neck into the relief shape you want by hand, then lock it down with the truss rods. You do all this with the bass unstru ng.

On the red cab is a Blackheart, neat little 5w class A deal where I’ve tweaked the gain structure a bit

Kinja'd!!!

Also got a Blackheart killer ant, which is a 0.25w c lass A a ll tube amp, uses half of a 12au7 as the power section.

Then I’ ve got a tiny terror and a Z.

I wanted a Rickenbacker forever because of Burton.

Kinja'd!!!

But I admit I wanted one in Azureglo mostly because of FLCL

It plays shockingly well considering it probably hasn’t seen a tech in 20 years, the string spacing (pretty narrow) is def going to take some getting used to

Aerodyne huh? They stopped making those correct? The other guitarist in my band probably 10 years ago had an A erodyne Tele, thing was really sweet.

Yep! Grabbed off of CL a couple years back for a crazy low price.

Kinja'd!!!

I guess, theoretically, people make fakes of a lot of ESP guitars, but I don’t think it happens as much with the artist series.

Crazy about the truss rod adjustment. Love the gear. You’re set to play everything from Roundabout to...

Although calling Burton's bass a Rick might be a bit of a stretch!

Apparently it was quite modded from what I just read. I’m an Old and I remember the exact moment I learned that Cliff died...standing out in the smoking area of my high school.  At our next practice we played No Remorse over and over.  Very teen angst-y...much mullets.

So cool. I distinctly recall pouring over Guitar World mags from the late 90's/early 00's, and reading a feature on Willie’s “new” signature axe.

My EC1000 has been a bit neglected in the lineup, but I've always been curious how it would compare to the ESP version.
