Since I canceled my reservation for a campsite this weekend, I went to Charlotte Cars and Coffee and hung out there with another car guy. I saw several cool cars and trucks (including the below 2002) but mostly enjoyed the car-obsessed conversation.
Then I went and sat on several motorcycles, including finding a candidate that just got traded in (a 2014 Versys 650 with lots of added farkles and only 4000 miles). Well, a candidate if I were serious about getting a motorcycle, which I’m not. I didn’t even ask whether I could do any test rides, since I haven’t ridden in so long.
I finished the day by going to drive a BMW M2. The used example I had in mind was not at the dealer, as it was getting prepped for sale . . . so they really shouldn’t have had it on Autotrader, I feel. Understandably, they also weren’t particularly interested in letting me take the Audi R8 on the lot for a spin.
At least it was a nice day for a drive. On my way back I stopped at a BMW dealer and eventually drove a new M2 Competition. It was quite fun. I had to restrain myself from hitting triple digits on a suburban country road. The saleswoman definitely enjoyed how I drove it through the corners.
I’d consider it to replace the GTI except that I would rarely use it’s full potential. Maybe at some future time. All in all a pretty good substitute for a day of retreat.

Sure looked like it to me. Didn't chat with the owner, was pulling out as I walked up.

Minilites look cool on any vintage car it seems...
