How does it compare to the French A220?

Considerably less airborne ( thus far) , but better space for my carry-on.

How is? I like, would consider a used one in a couple years.

Hertz or Sixt, or does someone else have them now too?

Better than I expected. Simple but nicely designed interior, very zippy little thing to drive. I don’t usually like FWD or turbocharged engines but this would be very livable and pretty fun for a relatively compact  commuter.

Smaller company with a pretty nice fleet— gorentals.com

My dad rented the prev-gen hatchback in Holland some years back, and he really liked it. Glad  to hear the new one is equally impressive!

Next time you’re up in Canada, we have them here now!

Does this make the CLA irrelevant?

Also, does this have a start button? I can’t believe it’s 2020 and Mercedes STILL don’t come standard with start buttons. I’ve been looking at c.2016 CLA’s and C-Classes, and almost all of them have that key that you stick into the hole still.

Interesting fleet, I notice it doesn’t change if I change the city.  How is the rate?

How is the ride quality? Does it feel jarring over expansion joints and rough road?

Yeah I'm not big on German cars but merc's are definitely my favorite, and I'm also pretty cheap and like smaller cars anyways.

I had a B180 when I was in Germany in 2013, and I loved it. It was one of those cars I loved some much, I would’ve bought if they sold here.

1. My very  first thought when I got in it...yes. 2. It does have a start button. My 2014 C63 has one too, but I think it was an option at the time.

It’s definitely not a luxury cruiser but it doesn’t seem too jarring to me...feels like most other reasonably agile normal  FWD cars to me. Certainly not overly harsh.  Keep in mind that the most similar car I usually drive is a C63 with the track pack suspension though. I’ll update this if my opinion changes after driving it around for a couple days.

Yeah, you basically have to call and see what’s available where you’re going. Not the most functional website. Rate is higher than your average airport rental car counter but considering the fleet and level of service (and the insane daily airport tax recovery fee charged by the normal rental agencies where I am on this trip), not unreasonable. The rep met me at my gate, got  through the paperwork quickly, and walked me out to the car parked immediately outside.  Also...apparently a bit negotiable or promo-code-able, as they gave me a discount when I balked at the initial quote.

how many dead bodies can you fit in the boot?

Not sure if you've driven a current GTI. But, I am wondering, is it a nicer place to be inside than a GTI?

Interesting. Maybe the next time I travel I will check it out. That basic new style G-Wagen in their fleet caught my eye.   I’ve had fairly good luck with Sixt renting higher line cars.

I haven’t driven a current GTI but plenty of recent VWs and based on that my guess is yes, albeit not by a lot. Big improvement  on the first gen CLA/GLA interior in my book, but obviously not super high-end materials.

1 surprisingly well for fwd and a tiny engine

2 Only one and tight at that. Small boot

Perhaps should have mentioned that the trip is for a family member’s funeral.

Update after driving more miles and numerous bridges with expansion joints: ride quality is exceptionally good for the segment, wow. Responsive but never harsh. Impressive.

Update after driving it more: it’s exceptionally good.  Best thing in its segment I’ve driven. My sister drove it today unspoiled by a seriously fast daily driver (as I am) and loved it.
