I am sitting in a motor coach in the bus parking lot of Boston-Logan airport. I’ve been sitting in this bus since 11am, but that’s only because I swapped buses with a guy...I was sitting on a different bus from 715-11, and I’ve been on the clock since 445am. I have another...3 hours and 15 minutes of sitting on this bus until I can go to South Station, pick up commuters, and head towards home. All in all it’ll be about a 14-15 hour day for me, which I think may be a record.
Anyway here’s the engine for Slow Racecar, now with 100% more finished. Needs accessory stuff, carburetor linkage and a v belt for the alternator...but everything you see in the picture is ON THERE, nothing mocked up this time.
Mostly I’m pleased with this bit:
There was no buying of a dual DHLA manifold for a 1982 Pontiac J2000. I want to say what I bought purported to be for an Opel or maybe a Vauxhall with essentially, but not exactly, the same engine. But importantly it was for the 1.6 or 1.8 liter, which is different from the 1.4 and also from the 2.0. I basically had to pray I was correct and for once I absolutely was.
Now I just have to figure out velocity stacks or a filter, because in terms of clearance between the passenger side carb and my alternator...it’s about 1cm. I’ll figure something out.

Looks great! Are you allowed to sleep on the bus until it’s time to drive?

I don’t know if I set any records but last two weeks... get in at 1 AM and leave around 9/10PM.
Come to think of it... no. It’s not a record.
I have pulled over nighters here before.
No rebuilt engines here tho.

I am, but I’ve never been able to nap. Plus the seats on this particular coach are commuter seats...not comfortable for naps or long trips.

I have to put some kind of stack on it even if I do a filter...what would definitely fit would be 4-6” stacks sticking straight out the back with filter socks, so I might just go that route. I don’t want to do that until the motor is in so I know how much room I have to play with.

It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever built unless you count my two boys. I’ve been very lucky so far with all of the important, irreplaceable parts being there. I’ve really only had to buy hardware.

Paint. VHT 2000 degree primer and Duplicolor header paint in semi gloss black. My actual plan is to wrap the whole thing, so I really only needed to paint the flange and collector but figured I may as well do the whole thing. Looks great as is though, I’ll have a hard time going through with the wrap.

Nice, yeah a wrap can also wear down the paint.

Right? An Iron Duke may have been fancier, and would definitely have been easier to get parts for. I wanted to fix the little oddball though, haha.
