A George W. Bush appointee, Judge Walton has presided over some significant political cases in his career. His Wiki article is worth a skim.

Interesting that he was a Bush appointee, yet had no problem throwing the book at Scooter Libby.
Great post. Thanks. His bio is fascinating.

Scooter Libby did crimes, so it’s not that surprising that the judge took actions to punish the crimes.

Thank you for the feedback. You received the post in precisely the spirit I posted it. I need to have some faith in the forces that govern the nation and Judge Walton has provided me some.

Never. But yes, I also find it reassuring when a judge actually acts like a judge, and I wanted people to make the connection to Judge Walton’s most recent ruling on their own. Pretty much an unassailable record.

Have you read Judge Walton’s opinion that made the news today?

Sure. I just meant that in this era, where political bias seems to infuse everything, it’s refreshing to see a jurist press forward to do his job without it affecting him .

No. Which case? These days I find it better to tune out AM news- just too distracting. Was my morning ritual for years to have three screens up-- but no more.

Yeah, that was what I was trying to articulate as well.
Personally? I’m very alarmed with the FISA Court abuses— which certain media outlets dismissed as drivel for three years— Turns out they were pretty much as bad or worse than claimed. It was refreshing to see the court actually comment publicly on it— and rebuke the agencies that had been trooping over there with one-sided arguments. I think Congress needs to clean it up. I’m reading the Walton was very concerned about the disingenuous nature of some of the briefs the Court had been treated to .

I think if the current POTUS did not make it his Job One to affront the entire planet when he gets up every morning, he’d have been in a good position to bring those things into the light in a way that people would pay attention. He has squandered much in the way of opportunity and some analyses I’m reading say he’s done a good job of getting out the Democratic vote.

I think the Democrats have made some acute unforced errors that on their face are somewhat trivial, but because of how the Republicans adroitly play the Double Standard Game with Extreme Prejudice, the Democrats come out looking bad. I’m thinking of Adam Schiff’s ironic sarcasm at the start of the impeachment, Nancy Pelosi’s tearing up of her copy of the president’s speech, and more recently, Chuck Schumer’s most unfortunate and intemperate remarks about the SCOTUS. Like President Trump or not, he has been exceedingly adroit and cunning in all but destroying the left.
I find you to be a very satisfying correspondent. Thank you for the conversation.

Hey, thanks for the comment. I appreciate it and would reciprocate the sentiment. I’d add that I’m VERY careful about politics over here— I’d much rather talk Frank Lloyd Wright’s car collection and whether a Hayabusa or a big Kawasaki is a better choice for an X1/9.
Having said that... and treading very carefully... I’ll post a link as I’m curious about your reaction. There’s plenty of blame-butter to smear around on this toast-of-political-turmoil, but I’m wondering what your reaction is?
The one commentor, down the thread, asks the pertinent question, basically along the lines of
:
“How did this even
get on air?”
*and, yeah, same disclaimer on source— it IS politifact so caveat emptor

I think I would just have to ask whether or not I got my $1.53 worth of value from Mayor Bloo mberg’s investment. I'd enjoy corresponding offline if you would be game. I enjoy sharing views and it's not easy to find the opportunity. What do you think?

I am very selective about what media I pay any attention to. If it’s on any cable news broadcast, I’m 99.9 8 % not likely to see it. I read Politico daily because I think they’re okay and because no pay wall. One might make a compelling case that they lean liberal, and that they are mildly hysterical, but I think they’re pretty thorough. I pay for subscriptions — at educator rate — to WSJ and NYT and read both daily. NYT definitely leans left, but then again, so do I. On some things. Generally though, I’ll go with WSJ when their reporting makes sense or reaches some of the conclusions that I reach. My favorite pundit is David French because he is unabashed about viewing and writing through his Christian lenses, but he is also not an ideologue. I like Jonah Goldberg as well, but Jonah is too verbose for my taste much of the time. And Jonathan Last & Company at The Bulwark. People like to assume that I am some floppy-headed Liberal because educator, but it’s simply not the case because my views are simply too diverse for one label to fit. Much concerned with social justice, but also with personal accountability, for example.
Also, deep in a days-old Oppo post, it’s pretty unlikely anything we write would be read by anyone else.
Thanks for the chat.
