There’s a company that makes steam-powered remote-controlled trucks!!! This is a thing! A glorious thing! An almost $500 thing, but a thing!
Apparently, the company, Wilesco, has been making miniature steam engines for over 100 years. They’re still around, and they offer a variety of different steam engines today, including several miniature steam vehicles, some of which are remote-controlled like this one. This is probably the nerdiest, geekiest remote-controlled vehicle in existence, but I love that it exists. Here’s the company’s official website:

Who has some sand in their backyard? We all get together and play with our toy cars?

I occasionally look at miniature station steam engines, but this is much more awesome.

I assume that pushing a lever on the remote engages some sort of clutch...

My high school science/ biology teacher found one in storage, once. It was an antique from the 1900's that had belonged to the school district since before that high school was built. She found that it was in surprisingly good condition, and even figured out how to make it work! S he demonstrated it for me once, and it was really cool. I think it even had a little whistle...

They even have little remote-controlled steamrollers! https://www.wilesco.de/dampfmaschinen-wilesco/d365-old-smoky-ampfwalze-bedienungsanleitung-dampfmaschinen-wilesco.MP4
Honestly, it would be awesome if we could all play in the sand with $500 toy cars ;)

I remember seeing one for sale, either at a flea market or an antique store when I was really young, I asked my dad what it was and he knew all about it, he had one as a kid in the ‘50s, but my Grandmom threw away most of his toys while he was in Vietnam. Found them fascinating ever since. As I recall, that one was in kind of bad shape, missing parts etc

Also, I need the one with the crane to come in a remote control version.

Not to worry, they come with pressure release valves that automatically release at 1.8 bar. Normal operating pressure is around 1.5 bar. Th ey also come with pressure gauges so you can monitor the pressure levels, and little windows so you c an watch the water boil. They’re still heated by fire, though, so there’s that.
