I’m a harsh critic of music, harsher the more recent the music. This song surpasses muster, IMHO. Great lyrics, great story, imaginative, grungy. In particular, what I like that they do is change up the refrain to keep advancing the story. Like the Dixie Chicks did with Goodbye Earl. That was a great song for all the same reasons.

Another good song concept , that is underdeveloped, is Stacy’s Mom . Capture that adolescent boy sexual angst with a crisp, sort of rockabilly, gnarly beat, but the lyrics are underdeveloped and a lot of good song gets left on the table.

I haven’t heard this song in a long time. I think a lot of pop/ rock songs took a decline in the late 00s when drums started to drown out guitars.
