Apparently not; that OPPO is shutting down.

OPPO, a mobile phone brand enjoyed by young people around the world

Well, I don’t think I’m among the young people, so it couldn’t have been me.

Utmost relation, you manage a 205?

Sadly, no. I did find a dead Oppo player of some sort a few years ago at the Goodwill Outlet but decided to pass on it; in retrospect I probably should have bought it and had it repaired, but I suspect that the cost of repair is probably why it ended up in a junk bin. I’m a bit on the cheap side so I just use an  Xbox One S that I found at a plan shop  on my (actually purchased new - a change for me! ) LG 4K TV. It gets the job done.

If you find another keep in mind they have a flat (or less) repair rate of $100 + shipping costs. 105 are still highly sought after for their capabilities and the 205 is going for something like 5K in new unopened packaging. OPPO are solid devices with well thought out architecture and power supplies.

Meanwhile you can probably pick up a Black Friday Costco special bluray player for $30 chock full of built in spyware and the cheapest combination of parts that will last nearly the warranty period.

Good ol’ autocorrect - I bought the Xbox One S at a pawn shop, not a plan shop (whatever that is...) It’s surprisingly good as a BD player when equipped with a proper remote.

Had I known that the repair cost of that Oppo would have been so reasonable I would have picked it up. Damn.

I do have a pile of other BD players, mostly LG and Sony, that I picked up at the outlet. I usually clean them up and give them to friends. One came in quite handy when my mother was in town; I could just bring over a movie on a USB stick and watch it quickly and easily. Since they weigh next to nothing they cost next to nothing. Most of those devices don’t have remotes, but that’s where a Logitech Harmony comes in handy. I don’t think there’s a device I have that I haven’t been able to control with one of these.

I do have a BD burner in my computer setup, but in all the years I’ve had it I have yet to burn a single disc. I used to burn lots of CDs, then DVDs, but nowadays hard drives, SSDs and flash drives are cheaper and quicker. It’s kind of like watching a movie on a disc or listening to a CD - kind of a step back in time...

Digital files have also removed the need to worry about region locked discs/ devices as well.

Finally gave in and bought a $7 Sony BD player at a thrift shop earlier this Winter.  It was fun for a week or two and now it mostly just sits.
