Thanks !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Can’t beat it for the price and after I add some rubber grommets to the arms I doubt it will make much noise (it barely does now). I ordered another one for my other/my wife’s bike.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s kind of a bitch putting the bike on and taking it off, I’d prefer a hitch rack. However it is a large pain in the ass to put a proper hitch on the Alltrack. Plus the hitch and associated rack would be more expensive.

Happy Thursday!

If it’s just you (plus maybe one other), isn’t it a lot easier to just toss the bike in the back with the front wheel removed?

I always wonder that when I see bike racks in general.

Easier? Maybe, maybe not.

Likely to damage your bike? Much moreso. Likely to damage your interior? Possibly. Likely to send your bike flying in the event of a collision? 100%.

In order to fit my bike inside my V60, I would have to remove the front wheel and then put it back n, which sucks with the disk brake . Putting the bike up on the rack only takes about a minute - put it up top, move the arm up to hold the bike and then cinch down the straps on the wheels.

1. car seats

2. modern 29ers are pretty big, and will at best, ding/dirty up your interior quite a bit

3. as soon as you have more than one person (and bike) they won’t both fit easily in the back

This is just my opinion, as an owner of wagons, mountain bikes, and children.

Pre kiddo-just me, yes way easier to just fold the seats down and throw it in the back, don’t even have to take the wheel off. Still though... I have to cover the floor of the car and the bike so it doesn’t damage the inside of the car. Then I have to put it all back and wash the blankets after every ride... add a kiddo seat to that and the rack is far easier.

What model is that rack (the bike part) - I have a couple older Thule racks that I literally found in the snowbank at our house after we bought it 11 years ago... they work great but I’m not sure they’ll last forever. I’m always interested in recommendations for cheaper alternatives if I have to -GASP- buy one!

Nice. Still enjoying the bike? Racks that touch the frame would make me slightly nervous of paint damage. Is it pretty secure?

I have one of  Those bottom tube clamp style mounts too. It’s not prefect but much much better then having to take the wheel off for fork clamp

Hope these posts aren't followed up in a couple of months with us both trying to explain how a bike went through our windshields lol. What sort of rubber grommets did you use? I'd definitely like to do something like that too. I kinda wish the bar mount had a wrap around clamp. It's why I don't trust it without the added bungees I'm using.

Yeah I would think the same thing. I've got a sedan so my bike doesn't fit without removing both wheels. So it's much more convenient to use a roof rack. My bike is definitely light enough too that lifting it is cake. But I could see using a rack in a hatch/wagon still just to keep dirty things outside and off the interior.

All these replies make sense, I just always thought the big allure to wagons for the outdoor crowd was to keep all your gear safe and secure (bikes, snowboards, etc). But I still see tons of wagons with all that stuff right out in the open. And the occasional disaster while entering a parking deck or garage...

I actually haven’t been out on a real ride yet, Sunday afternoon I will head out. It’s secure but yes I’m sure it will damage the paint on the frame. I could throw a microfiber around that part of the frame and I’m sure it would be fine.

Yeah, I plan to use a lashing strap/tow strap in addition. I have a bunch of rubber/plastic grommets in a bin so I’m just going to see what I can workout. I will let you know what I come up with. I’m thinking of using the spacers that come with TV mounts.

is the difficulty with positioning the bike to lock up there? I have a yakima front loader that holds the front wheel and ratchets the back. Super nice to just roll it right up there

Damn that front loader looks awesome, and yes that would make all of my troubles go away. For $160 extra:/

I’ll know if it’s legit or not after my ride on Sunday. If I hate it, I’ll return the extra one I bought and keep this one for a second bike. The go and buy that sweet ass rack. I’ll peruse CL first

Did your kit actually come with some sort of rubber piece as well? I saw the instructions mentioned an insert but didn't see anything in the box like that

I know that's why I would want a wagon. I'd entirely remove the back seat. But I'm at most ever traveling with my girlfriend. And never children that's for sure!

The only rubber bits that came with mine are the “end caps” for the tray
