Oatmeal raisin > chocolate chip

Shit, I didn’t mean for them to be crispy, Montauks are supposed to be soft baked:
As far as dark chocolate goes, I do like the Captivas too:

Day 3: I’m almost through the apparel section. I can smell the bakery, but that might just be my exhaustion and hypoxia playing tricks on me . We’ve lost two men and four dogs so far, but progress is being made. I promised myself that if I find the cookies, I will also grab two rotisserie chickens. We’re low on milk, but I fear further loss of life if I venture into the dairy cavern. The best plan now is just to get what we came for and cut our losses. Dead men can’t eat oatmeal raisin cookies.
:D
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:09 |

That’s absurd. I’ll happily eat an oatmeal raisin cookie, but better than chocolate? Nonsense.

McDonald’s has good cookies, but you better watch out—the chips are lava!
Walmart’s bakery cookies are not as good as they used to be. They come in a bag 3 for $1 and placed on a rack near the checkouts

I am going to dismiss your reply for lack of a picture.
I am going to try and help you out here:

They’re both delicious, but done right (fresh, soft, lots of cinnamon and nutmeg), I'll eat the oatmeal raisin first.

I sampled four varieties of Chips Ahoy in test of this hypothesis last week. Red Velvet Chips Ahoy have too much “stickiness” in the mouth feel as a result of the dehydrated cream cheese icing (would’ve been better without)
, brownie core ones don’t have enough brownie crush/melt characteristics to make up for missing sugar cookie (and were a little dry. Reese’s Chips Ahoy... well, they were good. Maybe good enough to unseat the champion.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:12 |

Maybe. But you are correct. (I think the weather is bad and Mr. Williams can’t go flying and it’s affecting his outlook on life.)

Pepperidge Farm Sausalito are pretty damn good. Also the Famous Amos ones with the nuts - you can put them in a bowl and eat them like cereal.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:13 |

You might not be entirely wrong. I’d sample those, but I’d still grab the bag of Chips Ahoy.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:13 |

The ones from the bakery at our local stores are the best! Chips ahoy are good but not soft enough for my liking and the chewy chips ahoy or whatever they are are just too fake tasting.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:13 |

I like these but I don’t really buy cookies all that much. Couple times a year, maybe?
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:14 |

Have you had these? They’re better than Chips Ahoy, easily.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:15 |

![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:15 |

![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:16 |

As an expert, obviously, Chips Ahoy is nowhere near top shelf, but I could easily and happily destroy a whole pack by myself.

I prefer the white chocolate & macadamia nut portion of the
variety pack a bit more than the oatmeal raisin from Costco, you are absolutely correct in that they are better than any chocolate chip cookie.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 11:25 |

Raising in general are wrong.
Grapes are good to eat when they are fresh.
Grapes are good to eat when they’ve been blended up into jelly.
Grapes are great to drink when they’ve been crushed, fermented, and properly aged.
Letting a grape just wither and die into a small, gross carcass is inexplicable when you have the three options above.
STOP WASTING GRAPES.

For a chocolate chip cookie it is the best pre-made cookie. Pepperidge farms is a close second, but too dry and crumbly. Havent had the soft baked ones though.

![]() 03/05/2020 at 12:07 |

Well, I might argue that they are better than any store-bought CC cookie. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with homemade toll house cookies, hot from the oven, particularly when dunked in cold milk.

I can’t believe I had to search so hard to find someone else who agrees that the answer is Oreo. Yes a really good chocolate chip is better. But I’m not gonna get a really good chocolate chip from the cookie aisle. This is comparing the fast foods of cookies.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 12:39 |

Wrong, regular raisins suck. 3/4 cup of raisins soaked in rum overnight are perfect for a full batch of oatmeal cookies.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 12:49 |

This thread is blowing my mind. I love the chocolate chip-oatmeal cookies my wife makes, but I’ve never look ed at an oatmeal raisin cookie and thought “damn I need that in my tummy”.
Going to have to grab some of these next time I’m at Costco. I hope they don’t come in a box of 750 cookies…cos if I don’t like them that’s not going to fit in our trash can.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 12:51 |

Any response that isn’t Oreos is wrong.
The only chocolate chip cookies I eat are homemade. In fact, in my house we only make oatmeal chocolate chip, and they are THE BEST. (By we, I mean my wife and daughters make cookies, mostly the 11 year old. She makes amazing cookies, and will make them just because I ask nicely!)

They’re kind of a strange cookie. I like their crunch and how the chocolate lubes them up when you eat them. The whole is much greater than the sum of the parts.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 13:00 |

Pretty much. Soft baked means funky processed fats.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 13:01 |

There are cookies that are meant to be soft , like gingerbread or sugar cookies, but that chewy think is unnatural.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 13:03 |

Pretty much. Then there were Grandma’s tollhouse cookies... I’m not that huge a fan, but when Grandma made them? I’m gonna start weeping here... I loved my grandma especially because my parents were so disappointing. (They’ve improved slightly...)

My problem with the Milano is not enough chocolate. I put Oreos right behind Chips Ahoy.

Not sure if this counts, but the triple chocolate chip cookies from Jimmy Johns are spectacular . I probably stole thousands of those in the three years I worked there. Also I hate having food debates because I’m allergic to practically everything.

Amen, Rusty. Every summer the family would go to the family farm in Indiana for vacation and there was always a big can of fresh Toll House cookies in the cupboard that Peepaw (blame my elder brother; he couldn’t say Grandma) baked from the recipe on the back of the morsels packet. Its been over 50-years since then but I still remember the smell and taste of those delicacies doled out 2-a-day with milk from the farm cows .

![]() 03/05/2020 at 17:54 |

Very fair critique. I almost don’t consider them cookies....they are like special occasion cookies. The dark chocolate ones are very good.
To your point, they need a liquid, as do most cookies. But a nice coffee with a Milano.....that’s living right there.
![]() 03/05/2020 at 18:04 |

I rarely drink hot drinks, but I think for me, a cup of tea with sugar would be a fine accompaniment to a Milano or seven.

TIL that they make double-chocolate versions.
You should serve these to your Air BnB Guests. (and double the price of a nights stay accordingly)

Maybe decent for store bought, but not the best.
Nothing beats a homemade chocolate mint chip cookie. Especially if made using chunks of chocolate, like chopped up Easter bunny.

The original (pre-buyout) Famous Amos cookies were the best store bought cookies I had ever had. That was 30+ years ago. The new ones aren’t too bad, but still pale in comparison.

Could be, they’re certainly not as universal as Nabisco/keebler. Only some stores around me stock them (that said, Walmart is one of them). They’re what a cookie is supposed to be though. C hocolate chips, flour, b utter, c ane sugar, e ggs, b aking soda, s alt, and vanilla. Nothing artificial. Baked until crispy and about 3 inches in diameter. Worth tossing in with your next Amazon order to try out imo
