With each year, the decision gets a little tougher...
... But I renewed the registration for the longboi today. Every February , I keep thinking it will be the last.
There are numerous items that don’t work, and pretty much haven’t since I bought it. I gave up on cosmetic improvements about five years ago, and have now basically given up on anything else. I just keep up on the brakes, tires, oil, and lights. W ith the new master cylinder and fluid, she’s got the kung-fu GRIP.
The engine is wheezy and sounds like it has bronchitis, but it always starts. Always runs. Always makes it to wherever I point it. However, I have this feeling we are close to our last hurrah together. She’s been speaking to me for a little over two years now. The cab, engine, and suspension all sigh in resignation during our previously- usual tasks and errands. She’s getting tired...
Not to get even more sentimental but... I feel like this one of the last pieces of the "old" me left in the world. When life was simpler. When I was younger. This will be tough to let go.

Really? As long as rust isn’t eating it away, I’d keep at it.
Just saw this.

My state expires your drivers license on your birthday. What a shitty way to be reminded your turning 40.

I can relate to the hanging onto a part of old you. How I came to the decision to finally sell the racecar was admitting that holding onto it was really an act of holding onto who I was as a kid versus who I am now. Only it was less useful than the longboi.

In my state it's always the day after your birthday. At least it prevents getting turned away from a bar due to an expired license when you want some birthday drinks.

Aw man I love the longboi...but I get it. Sometimes nostalgia makes you keep things longer than you really should. But if you do get rid of it may I suggest an oppo raffle? Lol

I long time ago I realized I, or more appropriately we are a 3-4 car family tops, I love cars, but unlike some serial buyers here I tend to hold onto my daily drivers a long time, but eventually they age out and are replaced. The hobby or fun cars are a little different, have had some I loved, but as I approached fifty I realized I wasn’t, and never would be, Jay Leno, if I wanted to experience new (to me) car things I would have to rotate out the stable.
I have had a lot of cars I regret selling, in the perfect world the stable and barn would just keep growing. But in the real world I have to do some horse trading if I want to try a new ride.
I am sort of in the same boat, although without as much time or emotional attachment to the vehicle. My old Ranger always starts and gets me there for the weekend trip to Menards, but it is more than a little creeky. I don't really want to sink money into it, but I don't want to sell it either, I wouldn't get much for it, and I would have to go back to convertible or sunroof mode when buy 8' lumber.

You barely drive it, right? Get year of manufacture plates, saves a little.
I had kind of the same “old me” vibes over the weekend. I bought the fintail in March of 1995, when I was 18. A quarter century ago. Hard to believe I was once somewhat wide-eyed and excited about what might be in the future. Then the real world broke me down, but I keep moving along, just like that old car. I try not to be sentimental as well, but that car destroys any chances - too many connections with good old times and people either out of contact or not with us anymore. I am thankful that I’ve been able to keep that car. I still enjoy it immensely, and I’d have regrets if I sold it.
I bet if you gave that truck a heavy tune-up, polished and waxed the paint, detailed the interior, replaced some suspension consumables, it would be young again. Keep it. When you get another 10-15 years older, you’ll regret parting with it.
Remember the Merit from GTA SA?

I’ve always wondered if and when something like this would happen...

If it came to the rust belt though, I feel like it would desolve in 2.3 years.

I have two garages, I’ll keep it safe from that nasty winter salt.

Sure thing, I’ll have to take it out for regular inspections though of course (when not a wintery mess)

Absolutely. It’s not like miles can hurt an old Toyota truck anyways.
