It’s not Wednesday, but most people wear watches on other days too, including me. So here’s a newish acquisition that I wore to go desk diving today : a Longines Legend Diver.

Kinja'd!!!

It doesn’t look as big in person as it does in the picture, I swear.

Usual Datejust, been looking for a 60s vintage day-date with a specific dial.

Skagen Ak tiv. I like Skagen as a brand. Not as “fancy” as other brands, but light, nice and affordable.

My 3rd of theirs

I really like that.  Clean, classy, understated, and I live mesh bracelets.  I used to insist on getting the date window, but now my vision isn’t good enough to take advantage of it anymore.

I have several Skagens.  I like them much better now that their warranty is better.  They were only a year when they started out.

One day I will finally buy a watch, and then I will probably shortly thereafter buy several dozen more, and I will blame you lot and your W atchlopnik posts.

Especially since I recently learned that regular watches can have silent alarms, which further erodes my short list of reasons for   sticking with my Fitbit Blaze HR.

Wow that looks great! Need to get a mesh bracelet on one of my pieces. Unfortunately I’m just wearing a Fitbit today so I can pretend to workout after work.

I really like the supercompressor style with the dive bezel inside the crystal instead of around it. And the retro mesh bracelet, of course.

Well, I suppose. I had an original Seiko Arnie for 35 years, but it finally died last year. I was looking for something to replace it, and found this in a search on Amazon. I knew nothing at all about it, I just liked the way it looked and the price was right. I was a bit surprised to find that it is automatic and not quartz, which is fine, but it does gain a minute a day. It also shipped from London, and I can set the day in either English or Arabic. I posted it on Oppo, and the watch geeks all chimed in and sent me off reading about it. So, it’s a bit of  serendipity. I really love it, and I’m glad to learn after the fact that people think it’s cool!

Ooo, I likey. Skagen is great on design, but their crystals are softer than other makers. I’m hard on them because of how I use my hands, but for ones like this, I bite the bullet anyway.

Hooray for the new job possibility! I won’t jinx it, but will hope for your announcement soon.

Funny how you call the mesh “retro”. I still think of it as a “modern” look, compared to link bracelets. Either style would look great with that piece though.

Like I said, I have couple already. Likely I accept one of those today or tomorrow and if something better rolls in, stab the current people in the back and take the better role.

I do too. In fact, I bought them for my groomsmen at my wedding. My brother in law, who hadn’t seen them before, wore his exclusively for 15 years until he lost it, and then got another one.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, except when I’m typing...and going to the bathroom...and probably eating, and...well you get the idea.

That is funny. Interestingly, the choices for the Legend Diver are the mesh bracelet or a sort of sailcloth rubber strap—no link option.

Bummer about the arnie, those are really cool. I’ve been tempted to get one of the re-issues, but I’m torn between that or the new “ casi-Oak” g-shock

Oh, I’d go aftermarket for a link before I’d go non-leather strap. I don’t judge anyone for liking them, but they never seemed to me  to go well with shiny or brushed metal.

Now anodized or plastic cases are another story. If it’s a rugged outdoor look, I’m good with cloth straps.

Yeah, I agree—I’m not a NATO fan and have non-leather straps only on a couple quite sporty watches: a nice padded black nylon strap on an all-black DLC Steinhart diver with a three-dimensional ceramic bezel like a Yachtmaster, and a blue perlon strap on a Seiko Turtle for summer weekends, hot hikes, and tropical vacations—the light perlon is really nice for sweat and/or swimming. Oh, and the canvas strap on my beater Seiko 5 field watch.

The prices for original working Arnies are insane. Too bad mine doesn’t work any more. I looked at the re-issue, but I didn’t like the giant crowns on the side where the original had small buttons. I also don’t want a solar watch, from what I’ve read about them.

I love having a day/date display on a watch but I’m at the point where I won’t buy a watch with one unless it has a calendar and not only day/date. I hate remembering to reset the date after the months with less than 31 days.

Yeah, for it to work you have to remind yourself to reset your reminder. It does seem  rather recursive.
