The 2gr-fxs in the highlander does have more peak power, but the 1GR-FE actually has more average power. The main difference is that the 1GR in the 4runner simply doesn’t rev as high. If you do the math the difference between the power peak in the 4runner (5600) and the one in the highlander (6600) the power is all in the revs. Up to 5600 rpm, the 4runner has more power at any given point in the rev range.
The main problem with the 4runner economy is a 5 speed that isn’t particularly efficient (internally) and the inherent losses of going through a transfer case and heavier driveline bits combined with a lousy .cd.
Thats not really the point of the video, but its just one reason I wish manufactures would quote an average power for the engine. it would eliminate the need to know what torque is or does and pit high revving engine well against high torque engines.
