"Ash78, voting early and often" (ash78)

That’s the amount of time that elapsed between when I first heard Buttigieg pronounced out loud, and his dropping out of the race. For o ver a year, the handful of times I’ve said it were phonetically , like Butt-uh-geeg .
You might have thought this was politics...but I’m here to ask “What are things you miss by not having cable?”
The other big one for me is a lot of advertising. Sometimes I’ll share a tip or lifehack with a friend about something I heard about, and the reply is “Yeah, they’re huge. They had a big Super Bowl ad and everything.”

I don’t feel I’ve missed much by not having cable. I’m much more targeted about how I get my entertainment now. I still have my binge watching phases if I find something I like, but overall I have put TV more in its place and don’t veg out as much as I used to. TV has become mostly dispensable, as I feel it should be.

Yep. It took me over 5 years to even come up with this post. Sports is about the only reason to even consider it, IMO.
Maybe politics. I haven’t heard Bernie Sanders’ voice since 2016.

Things I miss about cable ... nothing. I don’t miss any of it.
Ok. I miss the weather channel. Esp during hurricane season. To see Jim Cantori flap around holding on to a palm tree... Worth it... but not going back because of it.

I’ve virtually stopped watching cable in particular, or TV in general. Lately, if I pickup a remote, there’s like a 70 % chance I’m going to YouTube, 28 % chan ce I’m turning on Netf lix, and 2% I’m going to cable.

Well, I'm missing some of the XFL games, though I can sometimes stream them on YouTube until they get yanked for copyright violations. But the big thing I'm missing is fast internet. I have CenturyStink and it's slow AF. I've been trying to lean on my husband to switch, but I think I'm gonna force the issue soon.

I guess the only thing I “miss” is the act of stumbling across an awesome show without necessarily having actually been looking for it. Of course all the other crap you have to put up with for that nugget of goodness is definitely not worth it though.

Haven’t missed much not having cable. I’ve gotten the football from nflbite.
I’ve learned pronunciation from public radio. I just learned Rian Johnson, director of Knives Out, is pronounced “Ryan”?!

Technically I cut the cord several years ago, but I’ve been taking the hell advantage of my dad’s Comcast password to access every cable channel’s mobile and Roku apps.
The only things I watch live anymore are sporting events. Maybe an occasional political debate but I mostly can’t stand to watch them live and instead prefer to read recaps afterward.
The only other stuff that gets watched live in my house is my wife tries to watch awards shows , which she gets all settled in for, watches a whole hour of red carpet, then gives up on the actual show about 2-3 awards in because she has no patience for all the speechifying punctuated by commercials. I nevitably she says fuck it I’m watching this on Hulu tomorrow where there’s no ads and I can fast forward.

ALL OUT BEFORE TOMORROW’S SUPER TUESDAY???
Why not just let SuperTuesday run, and give those states’ primary voters a chance to vote, and see how it goes? They can re-allocate the delegates if/when they drop out after.
This seems like an artificial way of narrowing the field... not very “democratic” to not allow a huge group of primary voters have the wider ballot.
Not that I care... I went independent for THIS
reason... for all the clamor about how primaries matter... and thus party membership matters... not so sure about that.

From what I read today, it’s a strategic move that a lot of them make for the good of the party. That is, presenting a more fractured field on Super Tuesday actually creates a bunch of weaker candidates against Trump. At least that’s the theory.

Fuck “democratic”, the point is to WIN.
And I don’t mean that in a bad way. Much of the Democratic party ’s, and by extension the country’s, woes is that the Republican party is laser focused on winning elections while the Democrats are... not.

Spoken, ironically, like a true Democrat.
I am not a Democrat, and I am not a Republican either. I ‘self-identify’ as a Federalist.
As in the people who founded a government of, for, and by the people. Not of the central planners , for the elite, and by the wealthy and powerful . (which BOTH D and R show themselves to be about, make no mistake. )
And if you are blaming the countries woes on the opposing party... you are re-arranging the deck chairs on the titanic, because you are missing the point entirely while the problems get more dire.
The ends (win ning, as you so succinctly put it )
justifying the means (cheating even your own party membership out of the due processes of a democratic republic*)
That is why you fail.
*-A democratic republic is a form of government, not any political party, which everyone involved in said government, and most who clamor about political parties seem to always forget.
As in, we are in this together, and trying to destroy one another will only be successful.
Snooder87
> BoxerFanatic, troublesome iconoclast.
03/04/2020 at 09:27 | 0 |
“Self-identify as a Federalist” basically means “I’m a self-indulgent asshole of the right wing variety”.
The thing is, political parties have a place and a purpose. Any competent adult with a basic understanding of history understands that in a representative democracy, in order to get shit done, you have to first band together to elect competent representatives.
A llowing incompetents to be elected for the sake of some sort of ideological purity is the worst. Just the absolute worst.

What good is banding together in the party, if the party leadership supercedes your vote with superdelegates, or a brokered convention, by pushing out candidates, consolidating delegate counts, and subverting the democratic process even in your own party, let alone going into the general election with the same ‘ ends-justify-any-means’, ‘win at all costs’ mentality to destroy?
George Washington KNEW this and warned us :
“However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
George Washington’s Farewell Address | Saturday, September 17, 1796
Read Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, and Washington. THAT is what Federalism is, and the core of this country that radical leftists want the power to
tear apart
, and what status-quo republicans have abandoned in favor of preserving what power they hold.
Democrats and Republicans are the epitome of self-indulgent power-mongers. Federalism limits power, and defers it to the liberty and freedom of the people first, and only enough power the government to ensure and maintain that liberty and freedom for the people.
Again you PROVE YOURSELF to be anti-democratic, and drastically mis-understanding of the situation, and what you are talking about.
