In vain, he has pointed out that he received no such call, made no such request and had never had an account with Scottish Power. The Energy Ombudsman told him it was unable to investigate because he had not completed Scottish Power’s complaints process. Scottish Power insists he can’t make a formal complaint because he does not have an account.

This should sound familiar to any fan of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy .

’ Share and Enjoy’ is the company motto of the hugely successful Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints Division, which now covers the major land masses of three medium-sized planets and is the only part of the Corporation to have shown a consistent profit in recent years.
The motto stands— or rather stood— in three mile high illuminated letters near the Complaints Department spaceport on Eadrax. Unfortunately its weight was such that shortly after it was erected, the ground beneath the letters caved in and they dropped for nearly half their length through the offices of many talented young Complaints executives— now deceased.
The protruding upper halves of the letters now appear, in the local language, to read “Go stick your head in a pig,” and are no longer illuminated, except at times of special celebration.

I much prefer the poem   Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I found in my Ear one Midsummer’s Morning or something like that.

Personally I’m partial to the bit about the  band Disaster Area. But neither of them are as directly relevant here as Sirius Cybernetics Complaints Division.

So, you’re saying there are companies worse than US domestic airlines at customer service?

Have any Scottish Power (non)customers been viol ently dra gged off an airplane? I still have to give the win to the U.S. airlines.

I’ve been in a similar loop. Called an agency requesting their assistance, they say “oh, we don’t oversee that anymore, here, we’ll forward you to the right people”. They redirect me to my agency. Anger, hate, madness as to somehow no one has figured out this is wrong.

I could quote those books all day. Seems to be an Oppo favorite, alongside Gary Larson.

One time the phone/cable installation guy didn’t show up. When I called, the operator said he tried to contact me to confirm but I didn’t answer. I had to explain that I couldn’t answer BECAUSE HE HADN’T INSTALLED MY PHONE YET

That’s exactly how calling the back office support line at my company works. The best was when I was trying to find info about pricing for one of our products, called the product manager, only to be told that she doesn’t set pricing and had no idea who di d .
