At long last, it awakes from the deep slumber with a fresh and somewhat rowdy 383. Here’s an exhaust clip.
I won’t consider this phase done until the hood is back on and aligned, but it’s very close now. Going to check the valve lash again now that it’s run in (solid lifters), put on said hood, then figure out exactly how long this project phase took (I do know the exact start date).

I got the note. Busy today...
I didn’t realize yours was a Club Cab Chevelle... (I personally far prefer four doors to two...)

No worries!
It is the crew cab; as the backstory goes back to it being my first car, I often say that I couldn’t then and still to this day couldn’t afford a 2-door in the same condition I got this one in! Plus, when you’re driving it, a couple extra doors behind you doesn’t matter. Just makes it easier to get people
in the back.

It comes and goes in waves. I’ve been trying to tidy up, getting ready for temporarily emptying it out, which is the subject of another post I’ve been meaning to make for a while.

It’s a good feeling... plus it sounds good! Now I just need the roads to be un-salted so I can go drive it.

Mid- september it went to have the useful bits removed and the rest is probably a fridge or kia by now.

Yeah, I went for a scooter ride this afternoon. Plenty warm out, but there's still a LOT of salt on the road.

Sounds healthy! And eager... How long of a break-in period do you have ahead of you?

It’s a bit rowdy, which is how it should be for sure.

It’s super-responsive, going to be a riot to drive. Plenty of displacement, the right size carb, high compression, and solid lifters give it some good snap.
Realistic break-in period is a few hundred miles at least
, depending on weather that may or may not take quite a while. It will be some time still before the roads are un-salted enough to actually go out for a drive proper.

Your project is coming along nicely. It is awesome you have your first car still. I have been updating a friend with your build. He has a 71 drag car that I might end up with.

Thanks, it is cool to still have. Spent a long time sitting in various places but I could never bring myself to get rid of it. F
ortunately now the neglect is over and I can do with it what I wanted to all along. It’s staying primarily a street car but (once some other stuff is done) will definitely get some strip time.
That’s a ‘72 front clip on the car
