One of the “joys” of home ownership is getting to replace/upgrade stuff you think is ugly. While this sounds amazing for the renter’s on Oppo it usually turns into a huge black hole of a time suck.
I’m in the midst of swapping out tile in order to update a 30 year old design. Changing from a two handle faucet to a single is a fun added side activity.
Demo went well yesterday and the better part of a thousand dollars for tile and supplies at Home Depot came home with me late yesterday afternoon. If all goes well, I won’t burn the house down nor flood the upstairs. Wish me luck sweating in the new plumbing. I’ve done it before but my joints always bear the mark of my amateur abilities. They don’t leak so that’s good enough for me.
Plumbing and backerboard is the plan for today. Maybe some tile, but we’ll see how the day goes.
Drink a beer for me. What does the rest Oppo’s weekend projects look like?
Update: phase 1 complete. One leak on the second to last joint I did. All taken care of and water tested. Will leave it open for a few days to make sure there are no small leaks then it gets closed up. Now for my reward.

While I have an incomplete storage building waiting for my attention , I’m at work this weekend, trying to wrap up some client deliverables. I’m staring at a wall of code, trying to solve yet another automation problem.

I don’t think I would ever do another bathroom without hiring someone. It seriously sucked.
I say that, but my wife wants to replace just about everything in our bathroom now.

Think like a tech company! Hire some one to do the actual job through an app at a much lower rate!

This is my first bathroom. Was consider ing replacing the tub but didn’t want to deal with the headache of relocating the drain. It’s weirdly in the center. They just don’t really make those anymore.

Yesterday I went to the junkyard for a few bits for the Cruze, came home with a set of Volvo wheels (factory BBS 17x7.5 2 piece). I am making a dog bowl holder for Ozzy because he pushes everything around the kitchen when he eats, but I suck at wood working so I only got everything cut, and my glue was in the cold garage and basically a solid, so I had to stop work on that. Yesterday we also got a new mattress and today I feel AMAZING!
Today Im going up to my folks to s pend time with my sister and brother-in-law before they head back to Germany. Then practice this afternoon.

We were talking about that the other day! There are times I would seriously consider doing it. I’m more of a hack than a programmer, so my code is fairly messy but effective. When everything goes right, I really enjoy this part of the job. When I hit a wall, I hate this part of my job.

Not that I am advocating more work for you, but I figured I’d ask. Do you need the tub? A stand up shower might work better with the center drain.
I have one in my current house and it is indeed handy, especially for things like bathing a dog.

Are you installing green drywall. When I made my bathroom in my addition I did the whole bathroom with green drywall except where I made my walk-in shower that I used magnesium board instead of cement sheets.
Took me months to make my bathroom, since I made my showerpan out of cement then tiled the floor, the shower and a complete wall.
Today I have to go in town and buy a wet sliding tile saw since I’m going to start a stone wall around my staircase very soon.

I do. It gets lots of use. Thought about going bigger but decided against it.

Using cement backerboard vs dry wall. A layer of thinset with a water resistant grout and grout sealer should keep everything dry.

You are scaring me. I dunno when my shower was last tiled, but I have gorilla tape over some loose tiles and dread fixing in my 70 yr old 3 bed 1 bath house. Did the bath floor in a day years ago , but afraid of what I might find in shower.

I applied a paintable waterproofing membrane on the 2 sides and the pan I used a schulter kerdi membrane.

Nice work and initiative. That tub looks smaller than normal which gives me an idea for increasing the size of
my
master
bathroom (tiny
)
by putting a smaller tub in the adjacent bath - thanks!

It’s actually oversized a bit. The pictures are throwin g you off. It's a garden tub with the standard 60" length.

I’ll google, there must be small tubs.
