From a memo sent out to all tenants this morning (emphasis mine) :

“The City of Houston has issued a Boil Water Notice until further notice. It is recommended that all tenants use bottled water only until further notice. All ice machines, coffee makers and any equipment connected to the main building water lines should not be consumed. Please read the guidelines below for further information and instructions. Please direct any questions to the websites and emails listed in the notice.”

Put another way, t his says, “ p lease do not eat the ice machines, coffee makers and any equipment connected to the main building water lines.”

My response to the secretary that sent this out: “Please do not consume the machines, even when there isn’t a boil water notice.”

She forwarded it to another secretary and asked her to empty the ice machine and figure out how to sanitize the lines to both the ice machine and the coffee maker. I can see how her precautions might be important, but...

I mean, it’s obvious enough what they’re trying to say, but still, it could have been better.

Austin had a sort of water crisis a year or so ago, when silt invaded the purification system and we had to boil or use bottled water for about a week. There was a huge run on bottled water, stores ran out in hours, lines at Costco, etc.

We boiled our water and stored it in thermoses.....
