Update:
No problem at all. Just need to put my toiletries and gogg les in my backpack.
M
y wife and I are getting away tomorrow for a ski weekend. She has a work meeting in Santa Fe Tuesday and Wednesday next week, so we are flying to Albuquerque tomorrow, then driving to Angel Fire.
We are both attempting to take only carry on luggage - with the catch that we both have our own ski boots.
I’m going to have to get creative with mine - they take up 80% of the space of my roll on suitcase (they are either size 29 or 29.5, can’t recall exactly). I’ll try to remember to grab a picture tonight, it is almost comical.
I will succeed....I severely dislike checking my luggage. I’ve traveled for half of my 20 year professional career so I’m pretty good at getting my stuff into a carry on, but dang, these boots are massive.

Lot of volume inside those boots to stuff socks and other small things.

Can you just carry them and have them be your personal item or whatever it is? They might fit under the seat in front of you while the roller bag goes above

I’ve definitely seen people on planes just carry on the boots.
In any event if they don’t let you, put your normal shoes in the suitcase and wear the boots onto the plane, then take them off when you get to your seat. Incredibly stupid of course, but you’d be compliant with their rules.

always wanted to wear ski boots onto a plane, just because.

This only ends in you wearing the boots on the flight. That would be a boss move.

No, no. Carry the boots to the counter
,
put your shoes in the checked bag and wear the boots on the plane.
You’re welcome.

I’ll second the carrying them on separately idea. My sister has flown all over the place with her skis etc. and does this every time. In particular, she couldn’t live without her boots but could rent / demo skis no problem (I’d say the same).

I could, but my wife made a good point - clothes are probably lighter overall, so why not stuff those in the backpack (under the seat) and boots in the bag I’l rolling not carrying all the time.
I’ve stuffed my ski socks and base layers inside the boots already, and my ski pants under them so the boots smush them down. I think I’ll be ok.
While wearing them on the plane would be boss, I’ll take comfort in this instance.

I live in SLC and have seen people wear boots in the airport. I do a roll bag and a separate boot bag personally. And don't check either.

I’m heading to Colorado here in two weeks to visit the inlaws for a long weekend. This is the first time I’m NOT taking skis with me. Need to get a hold of my FIL to see if he wants to hit Copper for a day or two. If so, I’ll take everything but skis and poles, and just rent them.
Can’t see myself dragging that ski bag around two airports for just two days on the mountain.
I might be packing just like this.
