Kinja'd!!!

Yesterday I got the title and lien release letter from the lender on the F-150. Over lunch I went to the mvd and got a new title issued for it without a lienholder. It feels good to pay off a not very old truck. Just under 3 years and 43k after flying out to pick it up from the Dallas area dealer that had one of only two suitably configured new trucks West of the Mississippi, I actually own the sports truck. Now I just have to resist selling it for something small and fun to pair with the Pajero.

Speaking of the Pajero, it should be delivered this afternoon.

I strongly encourage you to keep that truck. Having a good reliable truck to always get me to work all these years without fail, has allowed me the freedom to engage in all sorts of other vehicular shenanigans without ever worrying about basic needs.

Wait until you can buy something small outright with cash.  Keep the truck.

Based on sales numbers, the F-150 IS the master race

Congratulations on paying off the truck! I’m gonna second shop-teacher and say that you should keep it. The Cruze is the first car I ever paid off and as much as it disappoints me and I’d like to replace it, it’s really, really hard to think about going back to having a car payment.

i may have missed the key moment when you might have sold the red unicorn... have you in fact sold the red unicorn?

Congrats on owning a nice truck. I concur with other folks here. Keep the truck. Dig in between couch cushions and see if you can get enough coin to get something small and fun again.

Sad about the unicorn tho.

I did sell the racecar over the holidays . It went to a very good home and will be racing around the SCCA g reat lakes region. It may even get some attention from Honda USA, as it is probably the last first generation Integra being actively roadraced with a major sanctioning body. The new owner has some deep connections to Honda USA, and his son is a professional IMSA driver for Honda.

I’ve had the title to the 3 since June and I still have yet to get the lien holder taken off. I really need to do that soon.

If it gets replaced, it would be with something that fills the reliable driving to work role, just fun. Maybe something like a new GTI with a manual, in a color and plaid seats.

I usually don’t say this about trucks, but yours would look fantastic with a mild lowering kit and some 20s. FWIW, the factory 20 inch wheels are actually pretty attractive, and ford performance has a 1 inch front 3 inch rear lowering kit. Here are the factory 20 inchers:

It would, but that wouldn’t do much for towing 6500lbs of  boat (although ye olde Escalade is in the family and tow it again if it has to).

I have thought about some of the bigger factory wheels.  If I found the right set at the right price, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.

Part of my motivation was the fact that it is the kind of thing that’s easy to put off and then forget about. Legally, there’s not an explicit reason to do so, as the signed and stamped lien maturity on the title and release letter are all that would be needed to transfer the title down the road. That said, I wouldn’t buy a car from someone like that. I’d make them go get a clear title before I gave them money just to eliminate the outside chance of fraud or forgery around the lien.

I’m sorry, no VW will be as reliable in the long term as an honest well cared for pickup truck. When I say long term, I mean looooooong term. My truck is 14 years old, and the only “breakdown” it has was last year when I failed to replace the rusty brake lines before one finally popped.  If I lived where you do, it’d be 14 years and zero failures to start or get me where I needed to go safely.

Stick and stay and make it pay.

I am happy to hear it won’t be rusting away in a cold wet junk yard until owner gets around to crushing it.

Sad I did not get to see it... but I owned one just like it and it has a special spot in my heart.

By the way, still have not made it out to el paso. Life is getting in the way. Maybe when I’m dead.... judging by how quickly coronavirus is spreading, it might not be much longer.

There was talking of going this spring, but it’s looking more and more unlikely. By the way, you go the beer thing the wrong way. I owe you a beer

it’ll still be able to tow a few inches lower, and there’s always a weight distributing hitch which is probably better anyhow :P

I've had enough experience with weight distributing hitches to know how much of a crutch they are for not having enough truck for whatever you're towing.  I would never willingly set myself up into a situation that needed one.

Kinja'd!!!0

It’s still enough truck though isn’t it? will a few inches actually matter that much?

I’m legitimately asking, as I don’t have a boat, but some of my friends have lowered trucks and don’t seem to be bothered when towing.

Kinja'd!!! ITA97, now with more Jag @ opposite-lock.com > Derpwagon

Kinja'd!!!0

Depends on how big your boat is. In my case, we’re talking about 6500lbs of boat and about 700lbs of tongue weight (plus whatever cargo is in the back).couple. Drop a couple of inches, drop the back a couple more inches with tongue weight and cargo , and you’re not talking about a whole lot of suspension travel left. That’s looks a lot less appealing towing in Western interstate conditions at 75 or 80 mph.

Helper airbags? Could be useful with or without the lowering kit.

(I know, I’m getting more far-fetched to justify this, but... I’ma do it anyway :P)
