Obviously international events will be affected, but I think this is the second major event based in Barcelona cancelled (Mobile World Congress was the first) due to the outbreak. Coincidence, or are they especially cautious over there? Or is this in line with what we’re about to see all over the map?

Nah, the Pres is gonna get on TV today, point how the market is rebounding, and tell us that all is well, totally contained.

The first case of Coronavirus in Spain was in Barcelona... given how many foreign visitors would need to go to Barcelona for the event, and how densely populated the city is I imagine they’re being cautious for good reason. Lots of people use public transport there... so the potential for infection during such a large event is high.
Also, Catalonians do love isolating themselves from the rest of the world citing overblown reasons

Cancel culture is real, and it’s coming for the Olympics next.

I suspect it’s more that they don’t want to be bringing in a lot of foreigners who might have the disease. With MWC, they didn’t want all those people traveling to Spain from Asia to exhibit, and now they are probably concerned about importing Italians. I don’t think there are enough infected yet to worry about not wanting to send out a bunch of infected.
Here in Boston, Sony has dropped out of PAX East (gaming convention) due to COVID-19 concerns, even though only one person in Boston has tested positive (a student returning from China, a few weeks ago). The mayor has been begging them to reconsider).

My dad leaves for Barcelona this weekend. I hope it’s just being over cautious.
