"not for canada - australian in disguise" (for-canada)

Fun fact: This was the only Tempest ever sold in Canada to my knowledge, as we never got the original 1960s Tempest, as the Chevy II-based Acadian was sold here instead.
Chilean-market Acadian Beaumont, yes that’s a Suzuki Ignis parked next to it
Also, according to an uncitated blurb on the Tempest’s Wikipedia page, they were sold briefly in Israel. I really want to believe that that’s true. Seems Canadian Pontiacs made their way around the world in some really strange ways. The Acadian was sold in South Africa and Chile alongside Canada, and the Parisienne/Strato Chief/Laurentian were big sellers in RHD markets, mainly Oceania, where it was replaced by the Holden Brougham, and later the Statesman/Caprice. Also, Belgium made CKD Parisiennes. For some reason. I’m sure the market for full-size Pontiacs that were actually full-size Chevrolets was just massive in the Benelux countries.

Ironically that gen Tempest wasn’t sold in the US.
I was told the reason that the Canadian Pontiacs went to export markets was because of preferential duties for Commonwealth countries. Not sure how Belgium factored into it, but US Pontiac dealers demanded Parisiennes in the 1980s after the G-body Bonneville was discontinued.

The Tempest? No it was effectively a LT
Corsica with a Pontiac grille and hubcabs. Even though it was Canada-only they were all built in the US.

I don’t know how many years it’s been since I’ve seen a Pontiac Tempest. A real blast from the past hehe
