Where I live there’s a lot of Mennonite people, and while I’ve learned that most of our preconceptions about them are wrong, a lot of them are pretty oblivious and have a relaxed way of carrying themselves. They are almost always on Island time.

People hit by trains = many
People hit by planes = few
Ban trains; travel by planes

I’ve had a similar experience - we don’t have a bunch out here but some groups in more rural areas of the state. I couldn’t put my finger on it at the time but you are right - hard working, but task oriented, kinda missing big picture in a bit of a hazy, laid back way. I suppose it suits some folks well.

In high school we had a golf unit in PE, and they had us walk this route to get over to the course:
So yeah, a class of students walking across a narrow rail bridge with no bottom (you had to walk on the ties). This was of course a spectacularly bad idea. Our golf unit abruptly ended after a few lessons, apparently because a girl in another class had tripped on the bridge with a train coming, though fortunately she was able to get out of the way (the route was only used by slow moving coal trains bringing fuel to the power plant up the lake, or returning).
The bridge has since been replaced by a wider one with a deck, so you probably could cross without getting killed even if a train were going by, but obviously still not a smart idea.

I like how the guy scrambles to get the little kid that is on the track with no train coming, only to cross back over the track where the train is rapidly approaching, carrying a kid and making tripping much more likely...

Did anyone ever fall into the creek? Sounds much less mundane than my high school (disc) golf unit...

Not that I ever heard about. It’s mostly shallow down by the school anyway. There was an annual lecture series named in memory of a student who drowned swimming in it, up in the gorge above Ithaca Falls.
Edit: oops that was a different creek: https://www.ithaca.com/news/nosanchuk-lecture-series-ends-with-washington-trip/article_5d53a956-ec19-11e3-b759-0019bb2963f4.html
Others have drowned in this one , but they are usually Cornell students.

What is even the intended path to take? Assuming you weren’t just playing the holes out of order.

We didn’t actually play on the course at all. There’s an open area within the course that was suitable for use as a small driving range.

Ashland, Virginia. There’s a railroad crossing in Ashland, VA that seems to be a magnet for all kinds of weird and idiotic behavior. This post is the latest in a series of clips of people being dumb on the live railcams set up by Virtual Railfan (usually in Ashland).
You can see the archive of all the posts here.
