Whoops, I scheduled this for midnight instead of noon.
After my recent post on a startlingly pristine 1983 Dodge Shelby Charger, a local Oppo, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , mentioned that the dealership is known for carrying some strange inventory. And holy crap is he right!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Alongside that unlikely slow Shelby lies a number of other out-of-place classics. And also some that are not so classic, from Honda minibikes to a 28,000 mile Ford Tempo . Their mainstay seems to be big American sedans and ex-police cars. However, they appear to stock literally any vehicle that is very good condition, no matter how old, obscure, or difficult to sell it might be, and all at exorbitant prices. Many of these 40 year old 40k mile cars are mixed in with high mileage minivans! Just who are selling to anyways?
So without further adieu, I give you the best of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
The only truly harmonious Tempo left also happens to be a peculiar shade of mint blue! But let me reiterate:
28,000 miles
on a 1992 Ford Tempo! And how much are they charging for the privilege of owning the greatest car ever made? $6,000. Where is Ford Tempo Fanatic when you need him to explain the subversive genius of this car?
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
I don’t know much about bikes, but I believe old Honda minibikes are solidly into the collectible phase now. They also happen to be quite good. School me on why everyone needs one in their life. $3,000.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
This stunningly perfect $11,000 Olds really epitomizes the era with its waterfall grille and budy looking side creases. You could almost call that the precursor to today’s flame-side detailing. But that interior. Oh, that interior. So much red! red reeeed reeee. . .
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
This era of Honda will never cease to fascinate with its ruthlessly practical approach to fun. This is a simple car with revolutionary ergonomics and the dependability to let you enjoy it for another 200k. But wait, did I mention the 68,000 original miles? $7,000 actually seems reasonable.
Naturally, there are more interesting vehicles than I can feature, such as a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the rare rebadge of the Chevy Uplander/Pontiac Montana/Oldsmobile Silhouette. The Oldsmobile rebadge a friend of mine had didn’t age near this well. There are so many more interesting finds that I will make at least 3 parts. But give it a shot and browse through the listings yourself. I mentioned in the title that the cars were overpriced, but I accidentally included the only reasonable asking prices in the dealership.

28,000 miles on a Ford Tempo is basically worn out.

Am I nuts for thinking that’s an OK price on that Honda? Those cars were absurdly well built, other than rust protection, but that seems fine on that front.
I bet it still doesn’t have a squeak or rattle in it.

False. I passed mine on with 250ish k. It was still a fully functional and perfectly nice--driving car. Mine had the Vulcan V6, though.

We’ve found the Oppo of car dealers.
Those Honda trail bikes are going for buku bucks these days.

Tempo needs a half off sale, probably a 3K car on a good day as it isn’t perfect, not a V6 etc. Accord is closer to reality, a nice 91 brought more than that on BaT, get it for 5-6K and could be fair. Colonnade likely wouldn’t bring much more. Fun stuff.

We had an 85 in the family until 99, ended up as a car driven by kids. It had 190K when it was sold, still running fine - engine and transmission never touched. Many other things went wrong, but it was generally reliable, especially for what it was, and it wasn’t exactly babied . It sold to a guy who worked for Les Schwab , who was going to rebuild the front end/suspension and give it to his kid. I saw it on the road again a few years later.

It’s really not as overpriced as say, a 100k 90s F150 they have for 17 grand. It’s at least in or around market price.

When is the last time you saw even half of the cars in their inventory? Some I don’t recall ever seeing at all.

OMG that Cutlass!
My dad had one just like that as a winter beater about 10 years ago. Bought it off the lady down the street for $500, no rust, 84k miles.

They were well-made basic transportation. A totally forgettable yet completely honest car. I have nothing but fond memories of mine.

Same here, likely because of my youth when we had the car, and that it wasn’t a terrible car. Ours was a pleasant blue on blue, loaded GLX model - it looked fine and people thought it was a nice enough car, and it always started right up.

A friend of mine had one and it was relatively new and I was like, cool a newish car (2 years old) I got in and soon realized that about 1/4 of the interior switches and buttons has al ready broken and the glove box was held closed with tape. He must of wrestled a Sasquatch in there or something.

The interior of mine survived my teenage sister and her college years followed by my college years. We weren’t nice to it, and it held up quite well!

I actually wondered what a foreign perspective on this might be. So which would look the most out of place parked outside your home?

Probably the 2003 Ford Thunderbird. Any of the mid noughties Impala Interceptors would also raise eyebrows (they look like overfed and badly made Camry) amongst those who think they know cars.

The Thunderbird looks out of place in an American driveway, since they are so rare and don’t really look like anything else. I never thought that the Impala was distinctive enough to look out of place even abroad . I think that Olds Tornado Brougham would be considered in questionable taste in most places here, no matter how much velour it has.

That Olds is cool as hell. Not $11,000 cool, but $5,500 cool I’d say.

It’s not that the Impala is distinctive. It’s the unfamiliar blandness of it - it should be a Camry etc . but it clearly isn’ t.

My sister had an 81 Accord in that pale minty green. It went on for nearly 300,000 miles until it hydrolocked with a cracked block.
I vividly remember riding to school and screaming at her not to hit a garbage truck.

Huh I guess that’s exactly why something like a Skoda or SEAT would look so strange in the US , even if you couldn’t quite put your finger on it.
