Nope. I drove those things back in the ‘80s when I worked for a VW dealer and they were cheap and unpleasant, especially compared to the Toyotas and Mazdas my friends drove. The first P’up I had wasn’t too terrible as it had a manual transmission, but then they switched me out to one with an automatic. That one was crude and horribly slow, which is really saying something since my daily driver at the time was a VW Vanagon...

We had a small fleet of the diesels. They were hilarious. Especially since you could get into them with a screwdriver under the door handle in less than 10 seconds. They were better around town than the Hilux...

There are a lot of these 80’s and 90’s Japanese trucks running around central Georgia still. These trucks are so cool to me.

I don’t think we ever got the 2.6, just the 2.3. I can’t remember if we got the diesel, although I think that engine was sold in a few Chevrolets.
As a Vanagon enthusiast I got to drive a couple at the dealership that were polar opposites - one had been modified with a flat-6 out of a 911, the other was a diesel Westfalia. Both hilarious, although for completely different reasons...

My truck has the 2.6 and it is not terrible, but it’s also not terribly quick. I will do the speed limit and it has torque. Yes I would much rather have a Nissan or Toyota but the Isuzu has been amazingly reliable over the years.
