My BIL is shopping for a new car and I think I’ve managed to sway him towards a M azda6 over an Altima, he found this one for sale and asked me what was going on in the history and I’m not sure so I’m asking you! It says listed as manufacturer vehicle but I don’t know why it would have gone to auction and it says NICB which could mean it was stolen or something? The big red flag to me is that it’s not CPO which to me says something happened, when I worked a Mazda dealer in Denver the cars from the auto show just went into our inventory after that so I don’t see how this would have gone to auction unless it was stolen or something. So what does oppo think? Worth a look or run away and keep running?
Here’s a pic (hopefully)
And here’s the link to the listing in case of kinja.

It’s a MY2019 they auctioned in February 2020. It may not qualify for CPO because it’s still technically new.

I don't feel like that would be it, I worked at a Mazda dealer and I think any used car less than 7 years old could be CPO barring like a salvage title or something. Either way I don't see why it would have gone to auction that early.

It may not have sold from the original dealer, and they sent it to auction because they couldn’t move it. Since the report doesn’t show any mileage it is possible that the car was never sold to a customer and as such would still be a new car since it’s never been registered as a personal vehicle.

From my experience it would have just become a loaner car for the service dept though, almost all of ours were Mazda 6's that we couldn’t sell (this was in Denver) but I’ve never heard of them going to auction like that. We used them as loaners and then sold them as CPO with 5-10k miles.

Running it through N IC B’s database indicates it’s not a theft or salvage. Weird. Probably was a auto show car that they just didn’t want to CPO (or it slipped through the cracks).

Mazda couldn’t give away Mazda 3’s last year despite generally positive reviews . How many Mazda 3’s does a dealer need for the service department? Dealers auction last years leftovers all the time. I wouldn’t sweat that. The real question here is why it’s not being sold as new.

Might have been damaged on lot and deemed a loss?
