That is interesting I assume the stock items are some kind of plastic. I think I could get a lot more bang for the buck with a program to improve my own power to weight ratio (diet). As you stated, for these cosmetic applications it is more for looks than performance. For something structural like a cross suspension tower brace you might save some more significant weight.

Saving those 78 grams would probably cost hundreds of thosouands of dollars in F1, so this is a bargain.
It’s funny to thing of weight savings on a level where buying a chocolate bar (well, maybe a king size one) basically ruins the weight savings.

Yep, stock is like a plastic-like (idk exact) material.
And yep carbon looks cool. I imagine if it added weight a certain amount of people would still use it. heck people put carbon mirror cap covers over their stock mirror caps, but those are the fake ones I was mentioning in the video. Its like putting plastic on plastic.

Imagine saving several hundred thousand dollars to save 78 grams and it goes out the window if your driver decides to hold in a fart or drink some water.

Even carbon fenders don’t save a ton of weight. Modern cars use super thin steel like and aluminum is even lighter.
I was thinking about this yesterday at work carrying a fender from the paint shop to the body shop.

I always assumed this was a pure looks thing. People love putting CF side skirts on their cars to match...and those are definitely adding weight over the non-existent
thing that was there before.
