Shit, it’s been a while... Warren apparently had heads rolling on the debate stage. Which I found cool.

Also, Kloubachar is hilarious. “Andre” oof.

Who do we talk with to convince Mikey to buy Jalopnik Gold?

Why is Biden still a thing?

Democrats in general are lol.

Republicans in general don’t exist.

You think the dems are LOL?

I’m a Libertarian and these dumbfucks are letting a guy calling himself Vermin Supreme run because of their insanely low standards to get on their website.

https://www.lp.org/libertarian-party-candidates/2020/

You’ll see him at the bottom with a fucking muck boot on his head.

Jesus, no wonder we can’t get any legit traction as a party. People made fun of Gary Johnson, but god damn he was amazing in comparison. And yes Vermin Supreme got actual fucking votes in New Hampshire’s primary (which is unnecessary and not how the LP picks a candidate anyhow...).

And I’m not even commenting on the goon in the giant yellow Taxation is Theft hat.

I really don’t think it’s Vermin Supreme hurting the party’s credibility (you’ve seen the other parties’ candidates, right? ) , but the usual partisan politics that keep people in their camps. Rs don’t need to exist. The base has a slavish devotion to their swampy corrupt embodiment of the 7 deadly sins  messiah. They have unity, and don’t need to put out any effort. yeah but he got real votes this time. Which is beyond disturbing.

And change the damn requirements so it has the appearance of being a functional party.

Libertarianism gets a bad wrap due to the morons with boots on their head driving around without plates claiming to be a sovereign citizen.

It’s a pretty level-headed idea once you get past the morons. Socially I don’t give a shit what you do as long as you’re not hurting anyone. Fiscally I think we spend too much damn money. I don’t think the government should be shut down or all social programs instantly deleted.

It’s pretty unbelievable where it’s gotten. Both parties treat the people like crap, the people keep voting for them and then going “but why doesn’t anything change?!”

The Libertarian Party can never climb up into real status with jackasses wearing a boot being on the website. No matter how awful the dems and reps are. No matter how reasonable the base platform of “fiscally conservative /socially liberal” is.

The LP needs to make fundraising and signature qualifiers and hold a real primary election instead of picking a candidate at the convention. So many steps they could take to be more legitimate.

The most likely outcome of the race right now is that Sanders gets a plurality of delegates, but not a majority. In that situation I’m very worried about what will happen at the convention. If Sanders has a clear lead in delegates but the superdelegates in the second round of voting give the nom to Biden or (God forbid) Buttigieg or Bloomberg, Trump is all but guaranteed a second term. Even if the Democratic Party doesn’t collapse entirely, half of Sanders’ base will stay home at least, and that will be enough to throw the election.

The thing is every candidate except Sanders last night said the convention should “play out” and the leader in delegates should not necessarily get the nomination. That was chilling...they all seem to want a repeat of 1968.

I’m not sure Sander’s lead can be trusted that much... he’s not that far away from everyone else and the real process just began... I think we will see lead changes often... and I hope Warren keeps her attitude for the remainder of the campaign.

But I agree that the worst case would be a Super-Delegate overrule, it would definitively give trump a lot of comfort.

There could be surprises in store, but the likeliest outcome is a Sanders plurality. He’s got a 10 point lead in the national polling average, and he’s very likely to win Nevada. It’ll be interesting to see how Buttigieg and Klobuchar do there, if they can still run Sanders close in a more diverse state things will be much more uncertain, but that’s not a very likely outcome going by the polls. Warren will probably get a bump from the debates but she’s alienated too much of the progressive wing to have a shot at this point.

Bernie has a very viable path to the oval office. He’s pulling away from the pack in the nomination, polls very well in the rust belt swing states, shares Trump’s populist appeal and foreign trade positions (which are still important for manufacturing areas) and it will be extremely difficult for Trump to try and position him as some sort of DC insider when, currently,  he’s openly saying the DNC is ratfucking Bernie at every turn.

I’ve never NOT voted LP for President and I’m 41. I’m also socially conservative, but that’s my business, not everyone else’s. Legislating morality pisses me off even when it aligns with my values because sometimes people need to learn a hard lesson about things, not just because they’re illegal. Like don’t eat too many pot brownies and wonder why you woke up naked in a hospital with an anxiety attack. That’s easy. The War on Drugs is hard.

Well, there’s a ton that goes into that. And the unfortunate thing is the majority of it involves money. If poll ing numbers aren’t met, they don’t make the presidential debate. But unless you have the funding, you’ll never meet the polling requirements.

Gary got blocked from the debates last election, which wasn’t right because they cherry-picked the polls they would use. The debate committee is an independent organization and doesn’t answer to any election laws or requirements and is mainly funded by the dems/reps - they have zero interest in a 3rd party being on stage.

In the end, yes those are excuses and if there was EVER an opportunity the 2016 election was it. All the more reason he should’ve been on the national debates. I’m not saying he was perfect but he sure as shit isn’t trump.

Sanders is starting to pull away. If Warren has any remaining integrity in her alleged progressive-ness, she’ll be out right after Super Tuesday and try to pledge her supporters and delegates to Sanders (barring a colossal shift in public sentiment where she emerges with a viable path) .

Let’s remember the debate last night was meaningless in the larger context - everyone is getting one more night on stage before Super Tuesday, if Warren can’t have a near-repeat of last night, the pendulum is bound to swing back toward Bloomberg’s unlimited spending and her and Biden are toast. She’s not going to win voters from either Biden or Bloomberg as it stands, she needs a coalition of former Pete supporters, progressive-aligned Amy supporters, the Steyer folks, and for Bernie to have a mis-step and lose a few people back her way. Barring that, she’s done. Biden is not capable of debating Bloomberg off the stage so he’s out too .

The question is whether Bloomberg goes scorched earth on the Democratic Party, which is a distinct possibility, and from where I sit right now, the only path where I think a contested convention would be more likely than not. Otherwise, I don’t think there’s any stopping the Bernie train. My $.02.

The Aleppo thing, they refused to send the candidate briefs to Gary like they did to Trump and Clinton despite him having decent polling numbers. He got screwed on that one. Sure he could have opened up cnn.com or bbcnews and read all about it but honestly with all the gaffs and screw ups clinton and trump had I have no idea how Aleppo was such a big deal. The optimist in me says that if Bernie has a clear plurality, like 40%+, they’ll let him have the nomination. But I wouldn’t bet money on it. I wouldn’t bet money on Warren doing the right thing either, unfortunately. I think her play right now is to hope for a contested convention and pitch herself as the unity candidate on the second ballot, which has, at best, like a 2% chance of succeeding, and a much better chance of giving Trump the election and completely fracturing the Democratic Party.

Well I put $200 on Bernie a couple weeks ago at 2:1, so the “wouldn’t put money on” ship has already sailed for me (no this is not a gag ) . But as of this morning, he was paying 2:3 (probably slightly overvalued).

If you want to know what to expect, look to the bookmakers. Nate Silver is saying 40% chance of a brokered convention, but Vegas has it about 60% Bernie, 30% contested convention, 10% field. Vegas paid about 3:2 on Trump at the closing line in 2016 after his odds soared from initially about 13:4. So i f the lines at the books are consistently moving more and more toward Bernie, I’ll definitely will not feel bad about his chances given the track record.

But 4 million people is still a lot of votes, obviously it’s less than 3% and isn’t a major impact on the election. But the more people that open their mind to a 3rd party the better. Right, which means they’ll never be taken seriously with or without Vermin. The 2 major parties are so entrenched, nobody knows who the libertarian candidate is, let alone half of the wackos that are vying for it. They really need more local level candidates to start getting name recognition , there were only 2 on the ballot last time I voted, out of 20 some positions.  Though 2 is a hell of a lot better than any other “3rd party” has, I think it’ll take a few more cycles yet before they start being recognized as a legitimate party as long as they keep getting local candidates on the ballots.
