I know, I know, SpaceX has entered the space tourism industry too as of earlier today. But at $250,000 per ticket, Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic offers us mere mortals a discount of *millions* compared to Musk’s $10,000,000 fare. So if we each buy a ticket—thus saving millions, key point—we can use said savings to buy any number of desirable enthusiast rides for—this is where my plan really gets good—the world’s first space-to-earth reentry drag race!

Seriously though, it’s pretty cool seeing space become a thing again. Getting out there is on my bucket list for sure, and it’s somewhat mind-boggling to consider how much of a possibility that will become in the coming years. I’m curious to see which of the various companies ends up being the breakout star, or even if they all enjoy a measure of success.

I want to drive to Seattle or Portland this year in my Datsun. Set it up and I’ll do everything to get there.

Ohhhhh that would be a great trip. I’m still hopeful for a Leavenworth meet this summer. I want some pretzels......

Taking votes here:

(1) Leavenworth.

Pros: highway 2. Homemade fudge. Pretzels.

(2) Zoidberg’s House.

Pros: chandelier collection (presumably). Castle-like office. The doge.

I wouldn’t mind hosting something someday ... There is certainly room.

Though it would be similar to the Lynnwood or Downtown meet we had: lots of conversing and consumption and chit-chat; not a terrible amount of windy roads. Or, start a drive in Snoqualmie on 203 and end up at my house (you guys did the reverse of this drive two years ago, I think). Who knows.

I vote for #1 as either is superfluous and I'll more than likely cancel/bail.  I suck.

That was a great read. One hell of a marketing play too. Pan Am’s president really makes me think of T-mobile’s John Legere...

Leavenworth would be much easier for me. I could get there in a day easy, 445 miles, like 7 hrs.

Speaking of Virgin Galactic, Spaceport America where they’re going to Launch from in Southern NM is out in the distance of this picture looking East. I was up on Caballo Peak for work today checking out our repeater up there. I’ll have to I take a picture of the hangar and terminal building stuff next time I’m out there.

Leavenworth can be a fun time if you embrace the cheesyness. Was this... Last summer?

Oh and between this and the jeep, you are killing it on color choices

R ockets are nice and damn sexy - but I think I’d rather have an hour in an F-15. I know I’d need about 17 puke bags but I’d really like to do some supermach passes up I-5, a low level run back down the Columbia gorge and then a balls to the wall altitude climb. O n a good day some of the later models could probably get to nearly 80k feet. I’ll wave as we go past.

That was from a roadtrip in 2015. Rode  the PCH up the coast. Camped throughout the interior of Oregon before heading up to Seattle to hang with friends. Hit up Leavenworth on the way to Spokane. The drive from Seattle to Leavenworth was great. Very beautiful area. Leavenworth to Spokane was aweful, although I was able to peg her at 140 for the whole way which was nice. Having since visited Frankenmuth, Michigan, Leavenworth is tame in regards to cheesiness.

Yeah, that Valencia Orange really pops.

I don’t know about options for the F-15, but you can do an Su-27 near Moscow for around $17k: https://www.flymig.com/packages/

Yeah he was the Richard Branson/Micheal O’Leary of the 50s and 60s that’s for sure.
